Two years ago, in a little town called Sheffield, a strange house appeared from nowhere. At the same period, Graham O'Brien, Ryan Sinclair and Yasmin Khan came back after being missing a few weeks.
From that day forward, they were never the same again, especially Yaz, who never smiled since that moment, she has never been happy again, and this was most unusual because Yasmin has always been the life and soul. She was always optimist, always happy, always smiling. She had this ability to see the best of you, especially when you don't see it yourself. She was always looking at the bright side, but not anymore, not since she came back, and everyone noticed this mood change.
What happened that day is a mystery to all, because these three never talked about it, but whatever it is, it has left its mark on them.
Far away, in a distant future and another galaxy, at thousands light years from Sheffield, a space ship is being shot by an entire battle fleet of Sontarans, with on its board the last defender of the Rutans' sky, a man who's only travelling, helping out and saving civilizations in distress. His name: Captain Jack Harkness.
But don't call him a hero, because he's not. He did many things he regrets, but one thing most than anything else. He's helping people only in tribute to a lost friend of him. The last time he heard about her, it was more than 3 years ago, when he contacted her because he needed her help, the entire universe needed her help, and as far as he knows, she gave her life to save the universe one last time. When he thinks about her, he feels always guilty, he couldn't help it.
He's hoping she's still alive of course, he spend the last three years of his life searching her through all of time and space, but he found nothing.
He doesn't want this and he can't handle it anymore. He won't let her down a second time. He's persuaded his precious Doctor is still alive, maybe she's wandering in her TARDIS somewhere in time and space, and no one will never hurt her again, not on his watch, so he decides to start again the researches, but this time, he needs help. He sets destination on Earth, on the 21st century.
Yaz was walking around in Sheffield, without any purpose but to go in a pub and drink to forget. This is the only thing that helps her a bit since ...
No, she can't even think about it. She just can't believe she's really dead, her Doctor. And now, like every single time she thinks about her, she's realizing that she never told the Doc how valuable she was to her. She was about to enter in a pub, like almost every day in her life since she left her job, when she saw him. It seemed so impossible, it couldn't be him. A military coat, old-fashioned and cheesy, black hair. No, it can't be true. He just appeared in the street, she assumes some sort of teleport device, unless if she is dreaming, but he's standing there, right in front of her. He's looking around, he didn't see her yet, she could runaway, but the only thing she wants to do is beat him to death, it's his fault if the Doc died.
He turns around and he's staring at her. He saw her. He's coming, smiling.
...:Ah, finally I found you, you're difficult to locate you know, I was–
YAZ: Captain Jack Harkness, you bloody bastard!! How dare you come here! You killed her!! She trusted you and she died because of you, you dumbo!!
And then, she completely lost control, and she didn't mind what people would say. The Captain hasn't had the time to finish his sentence that he was punched in the face.
Jack was on the ground, and Yaz still above him, insulting him and beating him. And the most impressive thing is that he wasn't even defending himself, he wasn't crossed or angry, he was just standing there, as if he agreed with his punishment. That was even more upsetting, and Yaz was more and more angry with him, she was literally venting her frustration on him, right there, in the middle of the street. After a few seconds, she feels someone grabbing her, she doesn't even look who it was, she's just keeping the struggle, striking in the air.
All of a sudden, she's realizing what she was doing, she's realizing she was striking someone, and the Doc wouldn't have approved, but most important, she's realizing she was separated, but by who? Is it the police? Will she going to go in prison for that? Suddenly, the person that stopped her slaps Jack in the face too.
...: How dare you come back here after all this time?!
JACK: I'm sorry Ryan. I'm sorry too Yaz–
YAZ: My name's Yasmin. Yaz is only for friends.
JACK: Okay, sorry Yasmin, I know you suffered, I suffered too, I spent the last three years searching for the Doctor, I'm sure she's still alive out there, I can feel it, and I need your help to find her if you agree.
YAZ: She's still alive???
RYAN: The last three years? It's only been two years.
JACK: Yes Yasmin, I think she is, I hope she is. And yes Ryan, two years for you, but for me, it's been three years, I'm a time traveller remember?
RYAN: Okay, let's calm down, and you two, come to my house in two hours. By the way, Yaz, where were you going? Don't tell me you were going in a pub again...
YAZ: Well em ...
JACK: If I can have a say on this, this is very bad for your health–
YAZ: Shut up Jack! Ryan, we're going to your home, now!
