Rey reached the mansion and went to find Unkar and give him the gold that she had stolen. She enters the dining hall where he sat eating, the smell of food drove her insane.
She bowed her head slightly as she approached him and passed him the purse, heavy with gold.
He tested its weight. "Very good, you've earned one piece of bread and two dates."
Rey nodded, but groaned inwardly. She probably could have bought enough dates to last her several years with all of the gold she brought back, couldn't he at least give her a full meal?
"Thank you," she forced herself to say.

Rey brought her bread and dates outside to eat, she didn't want to be around Unkar long enough for him to berate her as he always did.
She sat in the sand as she ate, peering out across the horizon. Her mind and heart wandered into the desert, and beyond to the ocean from her dreams.
She couldn't help but think of the young man she'd dreamed of. She'd never known compassion of any kind...only pain and abuse. She didn't know the feeling of a tender kiss such as the one he had given her.
It seemed that her whole life people had simply used her to gain what they wanted... money, usually. Her parents sold her into slavery for money, and now Unkar gave her only one choice: steal so that he could remain rich or starve.
She sighed, it seemed that no one cared about her unless she could bring them a profit. Was that how everyone was, or were there some people who actually cared for others rather they could get something from them or not?
Even if there was, there was no one for her. No one who loved her, she was completely alone and she feared that she always would be.
