SPECIAL CHAPTER

*FLASHBACK...*

"Elle, friend. You look gorgeous as always." I sarcastically greeted my best friend, when she reached the last steps of the stairs. I usually went to school with her, but I had to wait at her house, going always a little bit early so I had the time to make it there and since Elle seems to get late I did have to make her run or else.

I was lucky she was my friend, though. She was the popular girl, a guarantee of no bullies coming after me. I was kind of protected and that was cool. I had my other best friend too, Derek, he was such a big part at my life. 

"Not too bad yourself. I'm ready." She confidently answers. It is obvious that she wanted and forced me already to change my outfit but that was a big No No. I'm good with my looks, Derek (my secret crush) is the only one I need and want to impress after all. I came up by her side while walking and took a strong grip at my bag.

"What is wrong?" She noticed.

"My dad telephoned yesterday, again." I smoothly said, which was a strange thing.

"And...? Did you talk to him?"

I shake my head. "Nope, although he wanted to. But I want nothing to do with him."

"Okay." She said. After a couple minutes of silence, she started talking again. "Finn is coming with us today after school, by the way."

"Yeah. No worries." I didn't like him. He was a bad boy but I don't say anything to Elle, it's her choice and if she wants to date him, I'm okay with it. Though I have warned her about him.

"Maths is the worst class ever." She angrily said. I laughed. That is true, our teacher just don't get along with us and we always end up in some kind of problem, which happens to be funny because we don't mind.

"Yeah, I still remember that time when we went to detention for laughing at some stupid joke you said and he went all red face and yelled like a fan girl and we end up laughing even harder than before." I chuckled.

"Yeah, that was so funny!" She laughed while knocking at our classroom door.

"Already laughing, ladies?" Mr. Jones angrily said. Yeah, we really got his nerves.

"No, that wasn't laughing. I was smiling while making stupid noises remembering funny moments that happened specifically in your class." Elle responded and I and the whole class started laughing.

"That is it. I'm so done with you! Out of my class! Both of you!" He yells. Oh no, do not laugh.

"Alright!" My best friend happily replied. "Like we were going to detention anyway! Come on, Athey."

I giggled and waved to all of the class. Elle was impossible, and like I said, I'm lucky and happy to have her as a friend.

"Hello, Athena." Derek greeted me when he met me at our lunch time.

"Hey." I kissed his cheek. "Me and Elle got detention after school. Want to wait or nah?" I asked while hugging him.

"Yeah, I want. Will be bored if I stay alone. Your teacher would let you go out earlier anyways." He smiled.

"I don't know. We reached his line, Derek. He might do something."

"Is Athena Miller afraid of Math's teacher, Mr. Thomas Jones?" He bit his lips to stop a laughing being heard.

"I'm not!" I let him go and slapped his arm.

"I think you are..." He couldn't resist and laughed. "Remind me why are you my best friend again?" I asked.

"Well, maybe because you care about me and I care about you?" He shakes his shoulders and my angry mask turned to a real happy one.

"You are lucky you're one of the best things in my life!"

*... END OF FLASHBACK...*

My mind has really drifted off and I couldn't understand why. Or maybe I could. Calum made it so hard to not forget the past. He really has my mind messed up and I think that sooner or later I'll be falling in love. I don't want to, but there's nothing I could and can do.

We are staying in California for about a week and in between, there will be a couple of meetings and many days off. We are currently in a meeting, our last meeting actually, and Calum was doing really well. He has been more friendly than I have expected and that made me happy. We planned that after this meeting will have dinner at a posh restaurant and I'm getting nervous. 

That day I remembered a few minutes ago happened to be a good one. After detention, we went to my house and stayed in, watching good old films and eating a lot of junk food. We laughed and laughed and by the time our body was aching... he told me...

"I love you, Athena. I really, really, really love you." Derek turned pretty serious.

"Aww, I love you too!" I had the urge to hug him.

"No. Not in that way. I'm in love with you. I do love you." He repeated himself.

"Are you being serious?" I replied. 

"I couldn't be more serious, Athena."

I kissed him and he kissed me back. After all of these years, having the necessity to know if he felt the same way and finally having it satisfied, made me a completely happy and self-fulfilled girl. Guess that dreams come true for those who wait.

And that was the moment I knew my life had... changed.

I look over at him. Perfect face, perfect body, perfect hair, beautiful eyes, beautiful smile. Everything was perfect. I quietly laugh at my stupidity. How can be my flashback compared to this?

I tried to find an answer while also trying to pay at least some attention at what they were saying. But I didn't find an answer and I didn't pay attention. What am I turning into?

"That was really good, Calum. Dinner was fantastic and you were... funny." I said, while standing with my back to my hotel room door.  

"I loved dinner too. And it is always a pleasure making someone so beautiful as you smiling and laughing. You are such a beautiful girl, Athena. What are you doing to me?" By this time, he is extremely close to me and his face is just inches away from mine.

"I'm doing nothing, Calum." I stepped back. "You know I'm not ready for this."

"I don't care if you are ready or not. Give me a chance... give us a chance." He quietly answered and grabbed my cheek with one hand, while the other made its way to my waist.

"I'm sorry, Calum. I-I... can't. And if you don't care I'm ready, well, I care. I don't want to fall right now at you knees and do whatever you want like I'm your slave. You have to change, Calum. I'm afraid of you. I don't want anyone playing with my heart. Not anymore. If you want to be friend, fine! But I want you to take it seriously." I locked our eye contact.

"I will do anything to have you in my arms and until I finally can yell that you are mine."

"Fine. I'm off to sleep. Good night, Calum." I wished and waited until he was gone.

"I- I-... Good night, Athena." He turned his head down and started to walk to his room.

I just want to not think that letting him in is a mistake.
