Monday morning

I wake up the next morning confused, and in serious pain. My whole body aches.
Ugh what happened last night and why am I on the floor in the living room? Wincing, I pick myself up off the floor and pad into the bathroom. As soon as I see my face in the mirror, I remember.
My mom was so drunk last night. I should've called the cops. I should've fought back or did something! But no, instead I let myself get beat up by the only person I have in this world. I still love my mom even when she is intoxicated and rejects me as her own daughter.
Maybe that's my problem in life. I put my trust wholeheartedly into people that let me down the most.
I'm already late for school so I take my time, applying makeup to cover my bruised face. After, I quietly go to my room, so I won't wake up the witch, slip on my uniform, grab my backpack and start to head to school.

By lunchtime my makeup has worn off revealing the bruises on my face. I need to go to the bathroom so that I can reapply it.
I am walking down the hallway towards the girl's bathroom that is right at the end of the hall when I hear my name being called. I spin around to see Dana jogging to catch up with me. Oh no I can't let him see me like this. I quickly comb the front of my hair with my fingers to cover my face.

"Hey Mags." Dana says as he reaches me.

"What's up?" I say looking down at my shoes.

Dana laughs. "What's with the hair? I can't see your beautiful face."

"Oh...um...nothing...just...uh..trying out a new style is all." I stutter. Wow I'm a terrible liar.

"Really?" He sounds unconvinced.

"Yup."

There is an awkward silence so I'm guessing he's staring at me.

I clear my throat nervously. "Well um good seeing you. Gotta go." I start to hurry to the bathroom. Dana runs up in front of me and blocks my path.

"Dana move."

"Not until you tell me what you're hiding." He replies.

"I'm not hiding anything stupid. Now move." I try to move around him on the right side but he blocks me. I try the left side but he does it again.

I blow a breath out of frustration and my hair flies up exposing my bruised face for a split second.

"What happened to your face?" Dana asks obviously noticing the black and purple bruises.

"It's nothing." I mumble turning away from him.

He grabs my arm and spins me back around to face him. "No seriously who the hell did that to you?"

I don't answer. Instead I stare at the ground, willing myself not to cry.
Dana lifts my chin up, so that I'm looking at him, and softly brushed my hair out of my face. A tear slips from my eye, then another. Dana brings me into a hug and I bury my face in his chest, sobbing uncontrollably. He rubs my back until I calm down a bit.

"Magda tell me what happened." Dana says holding me by my shoulders.

I tell him what happened last night between my mother and I. After I'm done I'm sobbing and shaking even more. Dana hugs me tight.

"Shhh stop crying. It gonna be okay." He strokes my hair.

Soon the bell rings signaling the end of lunch.

"Come on." Dana grabs my hand and pulls me to follow him. He leads me out of the school and into his car.

"Where are we going?" I sniff while I strap myself in.
