the biggest baby: call me asap

Wave had no idea what to think when he received this text message from Pang. It's been a few months since they've seen each other last. Pang had spent half of his summer with Wave in the States while Wave took summer courses, but it wasn't nearly long enough. Wave, now sporting a Master's degree, was in the middle of his first year in a Ph.D. program. He loved it. He knew he wanted to teach college classes, as awful as students can be, but that meant that he well and truly will be in the U.S. for good. He hasn't been back to Thailand since his grandmother passed away almost a year ago.

Wave was in the middle of teaching a recitation class, but he immediately dismissed the students to call Pang. He picked up on the second ring.

"What's wrong?" Wave asked. "Are you hurt? Do I need to be there?"

Pang chuckled on the other end of the line. "No, but it's nice to know that you'd hop on a plane just to see if I'm okay."

Wave sighed and held his head in his hands. He dismissed his class, and it wasn't even an emergency. "You scared the shit out of me."

"Aw, I'm sorry, but I'll make it up to you."

"Why do you actually need to talk to me? Isn't it one in the morning over there?"

"Yes but I just got an email from the publisher," Pang said. Wave perked up at the word 'publisher.' "They're releasing my book in October."

"Oh my god. Oh my god, baby, you got published? That's amazing!"

"But here's the best part," Pang said. "Now, this is totally up to you, but I know you're looking for a new roommate after the other guy dropped out, and I just so happened to have set aside enough money to potentially move over there for good."

Wave paused. "What about your job?"

"I'll make enough money with the book for a while, and I asked the publisher if it was okay if I moved overseas and they said they didn't mind where I was as long as I meet my deadlines for the next novel. I don't need that crummy magazine job anymore."

Wave choked on a sob. "So you'll move over here? With me? For good?"

"For good."

Wave was crying now, and he was sure Pang was too. The students from the next class were waiting outside, but Wave didn't care. Pang was going to move in with him. They were going to live together. Long distance was so hard, and after over two years of seeing each other mostly through a computer screen, Wave couldn't be happier.

"This is... amazing. When will you move here?"

"Probably around November after the book tour, but I can still pay for half of the rent until then. I know the university doesn't pay you enough."

"You're too good to me. I love you, oh my god."

"I love you too. It won't be long, I promise."
