Chapter 16: Red Eyes

Lucia's POV

Tahimik kaming nakaupo ni gamma Randall sa madamong lupa. Kakatapos lang namin sa competition namin. Matapos ang naunang laban ay nag request siya ng rematch. Ayaw magpatalo. I laugh everytime I see his face after every rounds. Naka anim na laban kami bago siya sumuko. Wala siyang naipanalo.

"I can't fucking believe this. Maybe you should fight Klaus next time" pagbasag niya sa katahimikan.

"Bakit naman?" tanong ko.

"He's our second best marksman"

"Who's the first?"

Napapikit ako sa malakas na hangin na dumampi sa mukha ko.

"Morgan" matipid nitong sagot. Napatango ako ng mahina at huminga ng malalim. I can see from the corner of my eyes that he's staring at me.

"Why do you think that I can fight them?" I asked. Nakita kong binawi niya na ang tingin niya at tumingin sa malawak na field sa harapan namin.

"Your skill is great. Sino ang nagturo sayo?"

Hindi ko alam kung sasabihin ko ba o hindi. I never opened up or told anyone about me. But after spending a short time with him, I felt comfortable around him. He's fun to be with. Malayong malayo sa nakikita kong aura niya kapag nasa harap ng maraming pack members. He has this intimidating aura when he's in his gamma mode. Maybe this is the real him. Not the pack's gamma but Randall.

"My parents" mahinang sagot ko.

"Where are they?" sunod na tanong niya. I played with my fingers and swallowed the lump in my throat. I know he'll ask that.

"It's okay if you don't want to answer" he smiled then ruffled my hair. Napansin ko lang na mahilig siya mang gulo ng buhok. No doubt bakit naiinis sa kan'ya si Blake.

"My mom passed away" sagot ko. I saw the shock and pity from his face. I just smiled and looked again to the wide field. I can see that the sun will set down any minute from now.

"I'm sorry"

"It's fine. Matagal na rin naman"

Natahimik ulit kami. Parang may malalim siyang iniisip. I'm glad that he didn't asked about my father's whereabouts.

"Bakit pala nandito ka? You're supposed to be with the alpha and beta" tiningnan ko siya. Hinahangin ang medyo kulot niyang buhok.

"It's not my duty yet. Mamayang gabi pa kami mag r-rounds sa borders"

Natahimik ulit kami. I should be feeling awkward right now. But I'm not. The silence is strangely comfortable and I feel at peace. Sa katahimikan ay naisip ko na baka ito na ang tamang panahon para magtanong sa mas may kaalaman sa mga katulad nila. The book doesn't provide all of the informations about their kind.

"Uh gamma may alam ka ba tungkol sa mga mates?" I asked hesitantly. Napalingon naman siya sa'kin at napakunot ang noo.

"Randall nalang Lucia. And of course meron. Why did you asked?" He turned his whole body to me. Interesado sa topic.

"Wala lang. I'm just curious" matipid kong sagot.

"You're lucky that I found my mate now kaya masasagot ko 'yang tanong mo" he said. I can see his eyes sparkle when he mentioned the word mate. Nagulat naman ako sa sinabi niya.

"You already found yours?" gulat kong tanong. Tumawa naman siya at ginulo ulit ang buhok ko. Napasimangot ako.

"Stop doing that to my hair" pagrereklamo ko.
