"So how your secret fiance looks?" came another question. My friends have been curious to know who my fiance was because in a year of our friendship we have shared every little detail of our lives and now when one of us is engaged (secretly) they want every single detail.
"He looks good", I answered as my phone buzzed.
"Hi! Your mother called me to drop you at home. So, I'll be waiting in the parking lot for you. -Randhir"
"Okay" I replied while my friends kept on asking questions about him.
"I think we should focus on having dinner because I might lose my appetite because of your questions," I said as I started eating while my friends could only smile at me knowing how foodie I am.
............................................
"Okay, Bye", I said as I went near the parking lot making sure no one sees me with him. I don't know about him but I am not yet ready to public my relationship status which is questionable for me too. He seems a nice man and I might fall for him but the weird relationship we share of student and teacher makes it difficult for me to digest this fact. And top of that my parents and family are the way too eager to make him his son-in-law. It's been 3 weeks since we engaged and my parents are not ready to tell me when and how they decided on our marriage. And the more questions I ask the more they avoid me and now the only person who can answer is him. I was busy organizing my thoughts when I saw him standing near his car typing something on his phone. Taking a deep breath I reached near him.
"Hi"
"Hi", he replied as he put his phone in his pocket and opened the car door for me.
"Thank you"
"Not a problem"
And then the awkward silence surrounded us as he ignited the engine to start the journey. Everything I thought to ask him evaporated with the awkwardness between us. He usually talks to ease everything but now he seems to be focused on driving.
"Umm..." I tried to form words to ask the actual reason about saying yes to the marriage other then parents wish but instead I asked, "Can I turn on the radio?"
"Yeah, sure", came his reply while he was focused on driving.
"No need. I would instead enjoy night view", I said as I turned the mirror down. The night view, seriously Sanyu. Why can't you simply ask him the reason and end the quiz you are playing from the last three weeks.
"You can ask. I won't bite you", he said with a smile. At this moment he doesn't look like the professor who doesn't give second chances, who is merciless with grades and might kill you....literally if you go against his words.
"Uhh...No......I mean...yes.....Actually.....I wanted to....."
"Breathe Sanyukta. Breathe" He stopped the car and took my hand as he looked in my eyes and spoke, "I know you have questions about us, about this relationship, why your parents agreed to this marriage and many more. But let me assure you we have all the time in the world and we will take everything as slow as you want. If you want to ask questions, ask them. I don't know about your parents' answers but whatever you will ask me I will give honest answers."
He held my hands all the time he spoke and his eyes never left mine.
"Do you have a split personality disorder?"
"What?" he left my hands and looked at me with horrified expressions.
"I mean till today morning you were behaving as if I never existed and now you are behaving like....a gentleman", I air quoted the word gentleman.
