We both run out the door and to the car, jumping in and turning on the engine before speeding away to the direction of Corey's house.
"Do you think she'll be ok?" He asks, his voice filled with worry and an anxious look in his eye.
"I hope so." Is all I answer with. My fingers are clenched on the steering wheel in distress. All we can hope is that we get there in time before anything terrible happens.
When we finally reached his house, I slammed on the breaks, making the car skid a bit. I quickly put it into park and we both get out of the car and sprint towards his front door. Once we reached the door, Corey slams himself against it, twisting the knob frantically.
"The door! It's locked!" He yells out.
"Don't you have some kind of backup key outside?"
"No... The one time it's needed." He sighs out. He then turns and grabs a small flower pot by our feet. He then walks over to the porch window and raises the pot.
"Corey what are-" before I could finish my sentence, he smashed the pot into the window, breaking the window.
"Don't just stand there!" He yells at me. He starts to crawl his small body through the window. Once he goes through, I follow behind him closely. Once I touch my feet to the ground, I just now hear the screams of his parents. Corey's then sprints in the direction of the noise, and I'm right behind him. We then are in the family room, faced with what I didn't expect.
His mom on the ground, tears streaming down her face, her left eye is swollen along with her cheek, also holding a shard of glass in her defense. His dad looked pretty beat up as well with his nose bleeding and a bright red mark on his right cheek. His fist is raised, ready to hit his mom again.
"Stop right now dad!" Corey screams at the top of his lungs. The volume of it even stunned me. I didnh't think the boy had it in him. His dad stops, and turns to us, and snarls.
"What did I tell you boy?" He says maniacally, starting to stumble towards us. I look over my shoulder, spotting the house phone across the room. I look back and his dad is closer now. I then sprint for the phone, hearing an inhuman scream come from his dad.
"Don't you touch her!" Corey screams again. His dad was running towards me, ready to tackle me. My heart is pounding like crazy, it's unbelievable. I grasp the phone, starting to dial 911, before I feel a sharp tug on my hair. I hiss out in pain and turn to see Corey's drunk father, face-to-face with me, looking furious.
"You stupid bitch! You got in the way!" He screeches in my face. He then raises his fist, and I await for the pain in my face, but it never came and I felt his grip on my hair loosen. He bends over in pain and turns around.
Corey is standing there with a large pan in his hands, ready to swing again. His dad then moves to hit his son, but Corey swings again, and hitting him right in the face. He falls to the ground crying in pain.
"That's for ruining my life!" He hits him again. "And that was for chasing away all my friends!" He continues to keep swinging the pan at his defenseless father.
"Corey! Stop!" I grab Corey and shove him back away from his dad. "Enough." I tell him sternly. He then looks at me, seeing a sliver of guilt in his eyes before throwing the pan on the ground. He then runs over to his mom. I then grab the phone and finally dial 911.
I explain the operator the situation, then hung up. I walk over to Corey, who's hugging his mother tightly.
"Corey, the cops will be here in about five minutes." He nods his head slightly in response. Minutes go by, which seems more like hours, and he hear the door bell ring. I race to the door and open it, several cops barging in.
An hour goes by, and we've given the police our statements, seen his dad hauled off to the car in handcuffs, looking emotionless. His mother is attended to her wounds, thankfully they weren't as bad as they looked. Corey then approaches me after talking to the cop.
"Thanks." He huffs out, eyes on the ground, almost embarrassed to say that one word.
"Why are you thanking me?"
"Because if you weren't in my life, my mom could of been dead by now." His words send shivers through my body at the thought of that happening to his mom.
"Hey, that's what friends are for." I smile at him and he steps forward and hugs me. We hug for a while before he lets go.
"Am I still able to stay at your house for the night?"
"What about your mom?"
"She already called her sister to stay at her sister's house." I smile brightly at him. I changed this guy's whole life, just by crashing into him. I couldn't be more happy.
"Yea of course."
