"I thought I'd bring these to my mom." I explained as I displayed a container of muffins.

"We haven't really had a chance to talk." Cliff shoved his hands on his pockets and stared at the light. "I don't wanna do this Mel."

"I better go now." Muffins in hand, I pushed past him and walked towards the door. "I trust the band is gonna come to the bar tonight?"

"You haven't been acting yourself Melody." Cliff caught me by the wrist before I made it out the door. "The light in your eyes is gone."

I shook my head abruptly, causing a heavy sigh to escape my mouth. Biting at my lip, I swung around to look him in the eye. "We've talked about this Williams. If my mother doesn't make it through this cancer.. I'm gone."

"I wanna meet her." He blurted out causing me to tilt in confusion.

"My mother?" I asked to confirm his request. "If you really want then I don't see a problem. I'm sure she'd like a fresh face to admire."

"Mom this is Cliff." My mother's face lit up upon her eyes meeting with his. "You know, bassist of AC/DC."

"Sure I know hunny." She smiled widely and reached her hand out. "You're sure a handsome young man. And Melody is available. I am too if she's not your time.

"Mom quit it." I playfully snapped, but Cliff only laughed.

"I'll keep that it mind." The brown haired rubbed the back of his neck and glanced at me.

"I brought these for you." I set the freshly baked muffins next to her bedside. "I hope you like them."

"Thank you sweetie." My mother pulled me into a hug and kissed my cheek. "So is Cliff your boyfriend?" She quietly whispered and I abruptly shook my head no, but I couldn't help the blush forming on my cheeks, the tinting would send my mother the wrong message.

Cliff paid me a visit the next day. Despite being groggy from drinking at the bar, he looked pretty focused on whatever was on his mind as he stepped into my threshold. I enjoyed his company, I agreed to let him stay as long as all the conversations were light hearted. However, with wine involved there's no promises things won't end up layed on pretty thick.

"You win again." I joked with a smile as I glanced at the cards scattered across the table. Running out of conversation ideas, I rested my chin on my hand. "So..."

"Yeah?" Cliff had entertained himself with one of my old yo-yos while he sat across from me. I watched him play with it for a few seconds before it made me too dizzy to look at it any longer.

"If you could do anything in the world right now, what would it be?" I was searching for a certin answer, hoping his mind was in the same place mine was. The lights were dimmed, wine was poured, we were both a little tipsy. It all seemed so perfect.

"I thought we were keeping the conversations light hearted." Cliff remarked with a slight giggle into his wine glass. "Guess not?"

"Shut up Cliff." I slurred and set down my glass on the table. "I'm serious. C'mon like you've never felt like making a bad descion."

"If I could do anything right now.." Cliff paused and sipped at his wine again. "I'd kiss you again."

"Really?" I squeaked and pulled my lips into a smile. "Cliff I.."

That night, one thing led to another. Even throughout my drunken state, the connection we had while kissing and later making love was undeniable.
