Choices and Deals

Cassandra keep on pacing while Dycon’s being treated by Jared. Dylan’s busy dealing with the mess the vampires created. Her hands’ still trembling with the events and to what had happened to her son. He’s still not waking after the pain he’d gone through.

“Cassandra, I’m afraid his internal organs have stopped functioning,” Jared said, his brow creasing in concern.

            “Stopped functioning?”

“Yes, wala na kahit isang ugat or even cells living in his body. Though he’s still breathing, yun na lang ang tanging gumagana sa kanya and hopefully his brain but his heart also stopped pumping blood. It is like someone turned it off.”

She exhaled sharply and sat beside Dycon. Holding his tiny hands in hers and kissing his forehead, she let her tears fall. “Dycon..wake up, my prince. Today’s your birthday.”

Confusion and great wave of sadness occupied her mind. Is this again another game of fate?? She’s getting tired of everything and she needed Dylan beside her..to support her but many people also needed his attention. Her hand tightened around Dycon’s and kissed his cold forehead.

“Mama?”

Her eyes snapped open to look at him and a sob voiced out of her throat. Her heart tears into pieces and she cried at the crook of his neck.

“Mama?”

“I’m sorry, Dycon. I’m so sorry..”

“Mama, please..stop crying. I’m fine.”

“But..”

“Mama…I’m fine. Stop worrying please.”

“Gagawa ako ng paraan, Dycon. I will not let you die.”

“ I know, mama. And besides, I will not leave you and papa,” Dycon said. He wiped her tears away and kissed her cheek. “Stop crying na ha. Parang ikaw naman may sakit eh,mama.”

She laughed despite the pain and guilt she’s feeling. Her son can really make things simple for them.

When he again fell asleep, she managed to clean herself, and wait for Dylan’s company. She waited for an hour before drifting of to sleep. She stirred when she felt someone caressing her face and her hunger kicked her stomach painfully. “Dylan.”

“Here. Drink my blood, Cassandra,” his sweet dark voice tempts her more and she didn’t hesitate to drink from his neck. She heard him moan from the pleasure of her bite and closed the very small distance between them.

“Cassandra…” He whispered her name softly while stroking her hair. She rested her forehead against his chest…feeling the steady but hard beating of his heart.

“Dylan, how’s Lucille?”

“She’s dead, Cassandra. I’m sorry. It’s too late ng mahabol namin ang mga bampira. They are like piranhas eating her body alive.”

Her heart grew heavy with another pain. She buried her face against his chest while letting her tears fall. “ This is all my fault. Hindi ko na-protektahan ang mga bampirang dapat ay sinusuportahan ko. I must have stopped them..paano ko ngayon—“

“Ssh..It is not you’re fault,” Dylan told her. His eyes searched for hers in the deepest of darkness. “Let’s just keep on moving forward. I know malapit na tayo.. and Dycon will grow up a strong man.”

“Malapit na tayo, Dylan, pero inu-unti-unti na ang buhay ng mga taong mahalaga satin. And Dycon.. I don’t know if he can survive this.. Wala na ang dugong tao sa kanya. And..and—“
