*** Flashback ***
"Mommy, just for one day. One day without bodyguards shadowing me wherever I go."
I begged my mother during dinner when I went to Brisbank para hayaan niya akong pumunta ng walang bantay while we finish our research project. Ever since I got back, I always have bodyguards around me. I get anxious pero wala naman, eh. Besides, I always feel like I'm being made a spectacle.
"Venn has her bodyguards all the time. Your cousin has double the amount of what you have tailing around. You are clearly asking me to risk your safety for the sake of feeling independent. I will not let you," pagmamatigas niya.
"Dav, let Thylane go. It's fine," ani ni Daddy.
"This is ridiculous," she exclaimed.
It took a lot of persuasion and assurance to convince her to say 'yes' and I came home to Sta. Caro bearing this news to my friends.
"Kailan ba raw tayo aalis?
"Probably by the end of July. Let's say 26 or 27 tayo pwedeng makapunta.
"This is gonna be fun. I always go there but not all by myself and with no driver."
"That's how spoiled and privileged we are," Nairobi rolls her eyes.
When I was staying in Spain, wala akong bantay. I can go wherever I want because nobody knows me. Maybe that's why I long for that kind of freedom and independence somehow. I feel like a caged bird here.
We never really went to cities bigger than what we have a few minutes away alone. We always have someone to come with us but now that we're in ninth grade, I want to do things all by myself and maybe going there without someone following me is a good start. But since the reason why we are going there is for school purposes, we will need our subject adviser's consent and an approval from our parents.
I partially finished my bucketlist with the help of my friends. Sometimes great ideas come to me and sometimes they slip away. Do I really need a list to organize my life and give it structure? Yes. I am a list-maker as a matter of fact.
This is what we have come up with so far.
