Chapter Two: The Return

Jace went his way to see what happened to that mundane girl. While the rest of us walked back to the institute.

*Back at the institute*

Emily's POV
This is just how I remember it. Big screens everywhere, busy people running around doing their respective jobs, some people training and the highly illuminated centre of the Institute. It gave me those feelings I yearned for all this time, home.

"Nice setup you have here man" Jake said to Alec, who just nodded.

"Well, my brother is the Head of the Institute. So he makes sure everything stays in its place" said Izzy. I smiled. Alec was a born leader and I knew he'd be good at his job.

Suddenly, Jace ran in with the girl in his arms. He took her to the infirmary and we followed them. After a while she woke up.

"Where the hell am I, who are you people?" She asked us. Jace spoke eventually.

"We're shadowhunters. We protect the human world from the demon world. And you're in the institute. You were attacked by some demon back at your loft but I arrived just in time"

"What? Demons? Are you kidding me? There's no such thing. All I know is some people took my mom and now you've taken me" the girl spoke. Her name is Clary. Jace told us all about her. He's been talking about her nonstop. He's known her for what, two hours? And he's already going puppy dog eyes for her.

"And by taken you mean saved your life?" Alec said. So he's still a sassy one. I always liked that about him.

"You people kidnapped me and tattooed my neck and you think I'll thank you for it?" Clary spoke looking at Alec.

"A mundane shouldn't even be here. And on top of that you runed her. What if she couldn't survive it, Jace? What do you think the clave would've done to you? To us?" Alec stated.

"You know what. Dial it down a notch. She's a shadowhunter. The blade lit up when she touched it. And you're one to talk, you brought these two strange people into our home and lecturing me about what could've happened" Jace spat. Damn boy you're pathetic.

I didn't say anything. I was just waiting for the right moment. Izzy gave me a sympathetic smile.

My eyes followed a familiar figure coming towards us in the hustle and bustle. Maryse Lightwood.
She stared at me for a minute, her eyes teary.

"It can't be" is all she said and I smiled at her.

"Glad to know atleast someone here recognizes me!" I went running towards her and hugged her. She hugged Jake afterwards.

Alec and the others were staring at us in disbelief. It felt as if time had stopped.

"But how? We all thought that Valentine killed you both 7 years ago, along with my sister Celeste" Maryse asked me with teary eyes

"He didn't. He said he needed us for what's to come. He killed our mother and made us watch as he slit her throat. There was this other woman with him too. She held a knife to Jake's throat but I broke free just in time and fled with Jake. We've been in hiding ever since" I told them.

"How do we know you're not lying?" Jace said.

I looked over at Alec who was completely speechless. He looked at me with hope in his eyes. I lifted my sleeve a little and showed him the bracelet. He eyed it for a minute and then ran over to me and hugged me as tight as he could, as if I was gonna disappear any moment. He finally let go and kissed my forehead, taking my hands in his.

"I missed you, Em. So much. I prayed day and night that you may have survived somehow. Not a single day has passed when I didn't think about you. You were my best friend. A part of me was lost without you. But now that you're back I'm never letting you out of my sight. Thank the Angel" Alec said breathlessly. I smiled at him and kissed his cheek.

"I missed you too, Alec. I wanted to come back to you but I couldn't. I had to stay hidden for Jake's sake. I'm sorry. But now that I know he can handle himself, I'm not going anywhere ever again. I'm so happy" I said smiling brightly. Alec hugged me again and then Izzy came over to me after hugging Jake.

"Hey! Its my turn'' Izzy said and I laughed. I hugged her tight and she whispered in my ear.

"Glad to have you back, sis!" I pulled away and smiled.

"The feeling is mutual, Iz. And you've grown up to be so..." I stuttered trying to find the right words.

"Hot? Yes, she has" Jake spoke this time. He always had a thing for her. But I glared at him nevertheless.

"What? You can flirt with Mr. Tall Dark and Handsome here and I can't compliment Isabelle?" Jake said.

"A. I wasn't flirting with Alec. And B. Its Izzy and not any random girl. So be careful about that or I'll kick your ass" I said. Alec and Izzy giggled.

"You know Alec suspected you earlier. He said he felt familiar with you" Izzy said. I looked towards Alec and he looked down, a hint of rosy pink on his cheeks.
I don't understand how he manages to be so cute yet so hot at the same time.

"What can I say, I'm not easy to forget" I said smirking.

I looked at Jace who eyed me suspiciously.
"Welcome back, Morgensterns" he said and walked away to Alec. What's his problem though?

Clary's POV
So all of this crazy shit happened to me in the past two hours and no one here except Jace seems to care. They're all concerned about the other two people and their reunion. What is so special about them anyway?

Alec runs toward the girl and hugs her.
WHAT?

"I didn't know Alec was capable of having a soft spot for anyone" I said to Izzy. She looked at them smiling widely.

"Alec may look like he's all tough and strong, but he's a softie around the people he loves. And Emily right there, stole his heart since we were kids, they were inseparable. He cried for months when we found out she had been killed. He never admitted it in front of her, but I'm sure they're both in love with each other" Izzy replied. Wow! They have great history together, which makes me wonder if Jace has a thing too or not?

Alec's POV
Jace came over to me. He doesn't look too thrilled that Emily and Jake are safe and they're back home. I don't know why.

"So you believe them? Don't you think it's crazy that they popped out of nowhere when Valentine is back, who, by the way, is their father!? They could be working with him all along" Jace said. I can't believe him.

"So you're saying that Emily and Jake planned for their mother to get killed and get the 'number one children award' from Valentine? You're going insane, Jace. This whole Clary thing is getting to your head. If you have a problem, I suggest you deal with it. Em and Jake are family and they're staying here, where they belong" I say and walk off towards my room.

PS. I'll be updating the story almost everyday guys. I do have an idea of what I'm gonna write so it won't be much of a problem. But if you guys wanna suggest me something, anything at all, please tell me in the comments. And tell me how you're liking it so far. Ily ❤
