It was late at night when he had stopped crying and decided to enter the house. All of the lights were switched off as he took a shaky deep  breath, relieved that no one was there to hear him or see him in such a miserable condition. 

"I'm truly sorry, Mina-ah." Huening Kai said as his voice trembled and his eyes filled with tears again. 

He genuinely likes Mina but the dirty lie that came out of his lips disgusted him truly. He wants to make her his but... 

The current circumstances did not allow him so. 

"I knew that you were lying when you said that you did not feel anything for her." A voice said as the kitchen lights were switched on. 

The tall foreign boy turned around and his mouth opened wide in surprise. 

"Taehyun..." Huening Kai uttered his name as the blonde haired boy sighed, crossing his arms over his chest. 

"I had been waiting for you ever since you went out. I knew that there was something wrong with you ever since you started to distance yourself away from Mina the moment we got back together. Did you seriously think that no one would notice this?" Taehyun said as he uncrossed his arms and walked towards the taller boy. 

"Huening Kai, everyone is not blind to see that you like Mina and she clearly feels the same way too. And why did you say that to her? From the first day I came here, I knew that you had been longing for her for a long time." 

He stilled for a moment as his throat restricted, the threat lingered in his mind. He opened his mouth and wanted to say something to his close friend but closed again, not daring to betray the promise that he had once sworn on not to tell anyone.

"Kai..." The blonde haired boy heaved a sigh as he crossed his arms over his chest. 

"You do know that you can tell me anything, right? I swear that I will not to tell anyone about it." 

Shaking his head, a sigh of reluctance left his lips as he turned and stared at the boy with guilt and sadness in his eyes. His heart pounded as he pursed his lips  a little.

"I do love Mina. I absolutely do. I like her so much, Taehyun that I am willing to let her go to be happy with someone she deserves the most... Not a failure like me. I mean..." Huening Kai chuckled drily as he pointed at himself.

"I see nothing in me that could match her radiant beauty and heart, Taehyun. I hope you could understand that. I had tried to be the most positive and brightest person that everyone knew but no one knew how much nights I spent crying alone in my room, going through every single darkest thoughts in my mind. The brightest Huening Kai you saw in the public is not the same Huening Kai you see right now. I have nothing. Nothing at all to see my worth to be with her. Mina is way too good for me, and I am out of her league, Hyun." 

Those words were enough to shatter him again and again. Since he had said it out loud, there was no return. No one know about the darkest thoughts that he had in his mind as everyone thought that he is the funniest and brightest person they knew. He is the school's sunshine, after all. 

"Not everyone is at their brightest, Kai. Even the sunshine has its saddest and most dejected moment at all but no one knew it except the sun. You see, Kai. Mina is not the brightest either and so are the rest of us. All of us have our own self-depreciating moment and it does not mean that you have to be positive about it all the time. We are humans, not robots. We have feelings. We have our moments where we cry, moments where we need to be alone and definitely, times where we think the worst of ourselves when everyone sees the best of it. I used to be like you, Kai and I understand how you are feeling right now. Thinking about it, it's just another step to process and mature even more." Taehyun smiled lightly, thinking about his past gloomy self right after Somi left. 

"Then, I eventually got into a lot of things to put my sadness off. I got into tons of sports to release my pent up stress and sadness out. Sometimes, I will play music to get mind off. It's okay if you don't want to tell me right now. I figure that someone has threatened you to stay away from Mina."

"WHAT?!" Huening Kai gasped as he held a hand to his lips. It took seconds for him to register what Taehyun meant as an understanding smile graced his lips. 

"This is like deja vu, all over again." A chuckle emitted from his lips as he placed a hand onto his shoulder. 

"I had been in your place before, Kai. I know how it felt." 

"I wanted to tell you if I can, Hyun but..." The tall boy stopped and sighed. 

"I know that you like Mina very, very much. She's special in your heart." Taehyun pointed out and laughed. 

"I don't just like her! I love her, Taehyun! I love her so, so much but I can't let her be with someone like me. A pathetic boy who cares less about his grades." He shook his head and chuckled bitterly. 

"I am just like a coal standing next to a shining gold." 

"Kai, your results are not that bad. It's above average." Taehyun sighed as he looked at the clock. "It's getting late now. We should go to bed since we have camp tomorrow." 

"But..." Huening Kai said as he looked at his blonde best friend. 

"Mina? I will help you with her since you have helped me with Crystal a lot. Take it as a token of gratitude of mine to you. Since you do not want to tell me about the situation, I will find out who is the person. " Taehyun smiled, making the taller boy to let a relieved sigh. 

"Thank you so much, Taehyun... I wish Mina will forgive me." The brown haired boy sighed as he pulled Taehyun in a sudden bear hug. 

"Words are not enough to thank you, Taehyun. Thank you for listening to me and helping me." He mumbled as tears fell onto his shoulder. 

"It's okay, Huening. You can cry now. Cry and hug me until you feel better, ya?" 

That sentence was enough to break Huening Kai and let his vulnerable side out for once. 

As Huening Kai broke down in a series of sobs, Taehyun rubbed his back comfortingly to soothe the pain that he felt. It made Taehyun felt bad for seeing him in the extact same situation he was in months ago. 

And there was a goal formed in his mind. 

Mina and Huening Kai have to be together, no matter what it takes. There's no way I am letting them to break up just like what Crystal and I nearly did because of some selfishperson's jealousy. Taehyun thought firmly.
