Ever since her parents died in a deadly car accident a few years ago, fourteen year old Ciera Frazier has tried to put her life back together. With a very strict brother and friends who have had her back since before the loss of her parents, Ciera isn't the little girl that everyone feels sorry for anymore.
One day, Ciera finds a note in her locker. A few hours later, when she reads it, she is utterly suprised that her life is once again in danger. Ciera tells some of her friends about the letter, and they get spooked as well. Who was A, and how did she know about Ciera, much less the tragedy that occured only a few years ago?
A few days later, her friend Jeff goes missing. She also notices that almost everyone at school, including the teachers, have been acting strange lately. Suspicion drives her to downtown Manhattan, where she finds an older boy in a black hoodie running through the crowd, clutching Jeff's watch that his sister Nikki had gotten him five months ago. Ciera tries to follow him, but gets sidetracked when she sees two goons in all black walking towards her. Some of the people in the crowd that Cece was in had long, dark scars from the corner of their left eyes to the edge of their cheekbones.
A bolt of lightning lights up the stormy night sky, and Ciera somehow makes it back home, where she is lectured by her 21 year old brother Jarrid. Tired from everything that had happened since the letter from A, Ciera goes to bed, unaware of the super storm that is about to reveal the cause of Jeff's disappearance, Kayla's superstitions and Cece's dangerous past.
Will Ms. Frazier be able to stop the danger that is about to befold on Manhattan, or is she too late to escape from whoever is after her and her friends?
