"You!" The sudden shout and the loud sound of my door being kicked open made me openly screech. I looked up from my book, seeing Tommy standing at the entrance of my room, looking out of breath and red in the face. "I have a surprise for you!"
"Tommy, what the heck?" Bookmarking my spot, I slid off of my bed in confusion. "How did you convince my mom to let you in?"
"I told her I had a birthday gift for you."
"My birthday already passed." Squinting at him, he only shrugged, seeming just as confused as I was.
"I told her who I was and she didn't hesitate to let me in. I think she likes me." Before I could berate him with more questions, he jumped on his toes. "Close your eyes! I actually have a surprise for you!"
"Oh, sweet Jesus." Though my statement sounded like dread, I quickly clenched my eyes shut, excited. I enjoyed receiving presents so there was no doubt in my mind that I would like this.
"Hold out your hands!"
"Hands are being held out." I heard him groan at my witty reply, biting back a snicker as I cupped my hands out in front of me. He then placed a cold object in them, the object itself feeling smooth and solid. "Okay. Can I open them now?"
"Hold on." More shuffling and the sound of something being dragged into the room filled my ears. "Okay, open them."
I looked down at my hands, seeing a high-tech mouse resting in them. It looked slightly worn but still well kept. It was black and sleek. Confused, I turned it over in my hands. "Uh, Tommy, not that I don't appreciate this but I don't have my own computer. I'd have to use my mom's office computer if I wanted to actually use this--" I cut myself off when I looked up, seeing Tommy beaming proudly while standing in front of a box that held an expensive looking PC and a monitor sitting adjacent to it. He also held onto a gaming headset, looking down at me.
I was lost for words, sucking in a harsh breath. "You didn't."
"But I did." My heart paused in my chest as I kept looking over the items in front of me. "And now you have no excuse for not being able to play Minecraft with me."
"But-- I mean-- I don't have money to buy it!" It was true. My mom was forcing me to save for after graduation, meaning that I literally had no money to spend at the moment.
"Well, then it's lucky that I just so happen to have a giftcard for Minecraft." Lo and behold, Tommy pulled out said gift card, looking proud of himself once more. "And we're playing Hunger Games tonight, dude."
For the second time today, I was sitting in a shocked silence. He bought me an expensive gift. He gave me something that he knew I wanted and would enjoy.
