"Shit!" Techno reached forward and grabbed my arm, pulling me out of my stupor. "Honey, c'mon, we gotta go!" I stumbled backwards, brain slowly catching up to what I just did.
When it finally clicked, the fiery anger and satisfaction was easily replaced by a rising panic and I turned around, sprinting away immediately with the others following. Instead of running down the street, I darted to the houses across the scene of the crime, running into the alley.
I ducked down into the shadows, eyes unfocused as we scampered between fences. A couple of dogs started barking at us, only adding onto the panicky state we all were feeling.
"This was a bad idea, this was a bad idea." Wilbur muttered, slipping on the grass a little as he struggled to keep up with us. "Where are we going?"
"Shut up, Wilbur! Shh!" Tommy hushed his friend as we ducked down behind a trash can, pulling out his phone. "The house we're closest to is Honey's but then we'd have to run in the opposite direction, and that's where the sirens are."
"What about your house, Tommy?" Phil suggested, not looking at us. He was scanning the street ahead of us, keeping a lookout for anyone coming this way.
"It's too far. I'm also in the same direction, so it'd be risky as well."
"Shit." Techno cursed. He squatted down and peeled open his bag. "Looks like we need a distraction--"
"NO!" At the same time, the five of us yelled at Techno as he pulled out a second Roman candle. He lifted his hands up in surrender and tossed the firework back down.
"Ok, tough crowd." I focused away from their planning, trying to make sure that my breathing was steady and I wasn't in danger of passing out on these guys. After all, it was my choice to set off the fireworks.
My phone buzzing in my pocket scared me and I fumbled to pull it out. It buzzed to the tune of Primadonna, revealing that it was Jacob calling me. Glancing up at the others trying to get an idea, an escape route came to me. So I took a deep breath and answered the phone, pulling it to my ear.
"Hello?"
"Hey! I haven't heard from you all night, so I was wondering if you were still considering coming to Conner's. My friends really wanna meet you." Conner? Oh, OH THE PARTY!
"Oh my God, I'm so sorry, I forgot all about it!" Turning my head away from the others, I tugged at my hair. "I'm so sorry, Jacob, that completely slipped my mind."
"It's no big deal! You can still come if you wanna, we don't mind." As always, he was understanding. "Do you need a ride? My friend has a truck if you're still out with Tommy and his friend, so we could pick up all three of you." As he spoke, a lightbulb went off in my brain. This was too perfect to just not let happen.
