Spencer felt complete with you. He finally found the portion that was lost. He always knew his way to a puzzle, he solved Emily's Star Puzzle before. This puzzle was different. It was his life puzzle. You were the last missing piece.
You continued to cry on his chest. You knew that you couldn't deny what you felt about him. You couldn't deny the impending truth of the known future.
You can't lie to yourself anymore.
---
Beams from the sun shone into the open window of your bedroom, lighting up your face. Your eyes were still closed as your body shifted to face Spencer, hands trying to reach him, opening your eyes when you felt the loss of warmth on his side. He had left early.
Groaning at his absence, you got out of your bed and walked out of the room, searching for him. Still no signs of Spencer. A part of you felt hurt when he left you alone, the other part relieved because he was gone. It would make it harder for you to do what you need to if he was here.
You remembered that you haven't checked your phone yet, assuming that Spencer called or left a message. You turned your heels back to the bedroom and got your phone from the bag you used on your date.
One call and text message.
"Thank you!" You said, almost kissing your phone because of excitement. The excitement quickly faded when you saw Kaelin's name.
Damn.
Kaelin: Hey Y/N! You good?
The message was just sent a few minutes ago.
Y/N: Yeah, why wouldn't I be?
You felt an urge to bounce your right leg, something you did to expel the nervous energy you were feeling and make you feel better. You felt your phone buzz in your hands.
Kaelin: You were supposed to be at work three hours ago.
You started panicking while checking the time on your phone. It was already 10:15, missing three hours of your morning shift. You forgot you had work, all of your thoughts were directed to the man you were with last night. You quickly type a reply to Kaelin.
Y/N: Oh my, I'm sorry. I'm on my way.
At this point, you didn't care what type of clothing you grab in your closet as long as it's decent enough for work. You got dressed, grabbing your bag from the counter and not forgetting your keys. You almost forgot to lock your door but you managed.
Spencer could have woken you up from your sleep saying that he had to leave. That could have been your alarm to start your day. An alarm that would not make him leave from the bed but you wish that happened so that you wouldn't be late for work. Then, you remembered that Spencer didn't even know your shifts at work. You had no one to blame but yourself.
The ten minute walk from your apartment to the coffee shop became three or five. You run as fast as you can, bumping into every person you run into. When you reached the shop, you catch your breath before looking at Kaelin. Her smile to the customers changed into a pissed off one.
You walked up to the back, grabbing your apron and putting your valuables into the office. You tried to search for your phone in your bag and pockets, realizing that you left it in your apartment.
Fuck. This is going to be a long day.
You were about to go out of the office when Kaelin entered and shut the door.
"Why are you late?" Kaelin said with a stern voice. She may joke around with you during or after work but she doesn't tolerate being late.
"I slept through my alarm." You said, looking at her for a second then to the floor next.
