"Y/N?"
"Spencer, we need to talk."
---
"What's this?" Spencer inquired, opening the envelope in his hands. His expression turned into a shocked one as he scans the pictures one by one.
"What does it look like, Spencer?" Your tone with a hint of annoyance, massaging your scalp as you can feel the recurring headache.
"You have a stalker," His voice in a concerned whisper, staring at the pictures. Spencer's mind went through endless circles thinking of the reasons and possibilities on why you were the stalker's target.
His body felt a burning pain, reliving the heartbreaking and traumatizing memory of Maeve. The only difference was he has a chance of saving you. He has lost everything and was on a verge of breaking his sobriety. If he lost you, it would be his trigger. He knew he won't survive another day.
But, he realizes he doesn't know anything about your life. His intellect can't figure it out unless you allow him in. Like a switch, Spencer's concern turned into doubt, "Wait, how'd you know where I live?"
Fuck.
"I asked Kaelin," It was partly a lie. You already knew where he lived. You just need a cover. Thankfully, Kaelin knew Spencer's address.
Spencer slowly reached for your hand. You flinched. Your body doesn't understand who was trying to hold you. He noticed and didn't attempt anymore, "What do you want me to do?"
"I think we should stop seeing each other," you decided. You were not completely sure about the idea. This meant throwing away you've learned all your life about Spencer's life. As of the moment, this was the only form of protection you could think of.
Spencer stood up from where he was. His eyebrows were curled against each other, eyes widened by grief as he stared at you, "W-what?" he whimpered.
"Your life is in danger because of me, Spencer. We need to stop seeing each other," you said sternly, maintaining eye contact with him. You hoped that he doesn't read through your expressions.
"I can't do that, Y/N," he pleaded, turning his back. Spencer walked to his bedroom in a tantrum, almost shutting the door on your face when you followed.
You placed a foot on the door and entered, shutting the door peacefully. Spencer was seated on the edge of the bed, "Why?"
"I-I can't protect you if I don't know where you are," he sighed, palms covering his face.
"I don't need protection, Spencer," you argued, already sensing where the conversation was going.
He moved away from you, giving you a dismissive shrug and raising his voice, "Yes, you do. Please don't fight with me on this."
Spencer was right. Your father has changed since you were out of his sight. But, you didn't want to hurt him more than intended, "Spencer, I don't need your protection. Okay? I'm perfectly f-"
"I-I need to save you," he screamed. Your eyes widen at the words, struggling to keep a steady heartbeat. Spencer found his way back to you, demeanor changing into a quiet, soft one, "Please, let me save you."
You clenched your fist and held back your tears, chuckling sarcastically as you did, "Spencer, don't you get it?"
Spencer's focus was now on you, frustration evident in his movements, "Don't get what?"
The people you've cared and loved left you and broke your heart. You can't let Spencer be one of those people. You can't let Spencer break you. You need to break his heart.
As the next few words left your lips, the dam broke. Breaking the rule your father has set for you, "You don't need to save me because you're the one who needs saving. I'm the one saving you."
You paced to the door, but Spencer was fast enough to catch up with you. He gripped your wrist and turned your body to his. His gentle arms welcome you to an embrace, reminding you that you are not alone in this battle, "Please, don't go," his voice wavered.
You looked into his eyes for the last time before the urge of kissing him took over. You reached towards his face and touch it lightly, "I'm risking my whole life to save you, Spencer."
You let go from the embrace and looked around his apartment. You cocked your head back to him, remembering every detail of him before the finale, "So, no. I won't let you save me. Save yourself."
Every miniscule step left broken pieces of your heart in his apartment. For the final time, you said, "Goodbye, Spencer."
---
"Did you do it?"
"Yes, I did," you replied as you closed the door of your apartment, masking the heartbreak in your voice. You cleared your throat and spoke again, "What's next?"
"Now, we watch Spencer crumble," your Aunt Misty said as she took a last puff of her cigarette and threw it on the floor of your apartment.
"What about Ernest?" you asked, picking up the cigarette butt.
Your aunt slapped your hand as you picked it up, "He knows about this."
You held your hand as you felt the itching pain from the slap, "He knows? But, he came to my apart-"
"I know. I don't care," your aunt muttered, standing up from the chair. She walked towards you, raising an eyebrow and pulling your hair, "We're a step closer, Y/N. Don't be a stupid bitch."
She lets go from the pull and took off, leaving you behind with your thoughts. You walked to your room and locked it, laying in your bed and staring at the ceiling. You looked over to the other side, imagining Spencer beside you. You could almost feel his comforting touch, caressing you as you sleep softly.
You let the tears fall. You were all alone. No one to run to. You never expected to reciprocate his feelings. It always only you against the world. But when he walked in, you feel loved and cared for.
All you could say was I'm sorry, Spencer.
