"Genevieve!" I call for her as I spot her walking to Potions. Since today's Thursday, our first class is at eleven.
"Huh? Oh, Emmaline, hey," she says as she turns around and I catch up to her.
"What's up? Where were you this morning?" I ask as we start to walk together.
"It's uh, a long story," she tells me, her smiling fading and she looks at her shoes.
"Well, we have time," I say with a smile.
"Oh, um, yeah... I guess," she says back and looking up at me. "So, um, yesterday when we were leaving Transfiguration class, Dean stopped to talk to me. He told me that he has a crush on me, so this morning I went to eat breakfast with him."
"Oh my God, Gen! That's brilliant!" I say with so much excitement for her. "That's not a long story at all."
"Yeah, it seemed longer in my head," she says with a laugh. "Anyways, when I was done with breakfast, Luke stopped me. He was very weird."
"So I've heard," I say underneath my breath.
"He kept asking me where you were and if you were safe. What does that mean?" She asks, her eyebrows furrowed.
"Beats me," I sigh.
"He looked like he hasn't gotten sleep in three days," she laughs.
"Strange," is all that comes out of me. "Chevalier was talking to me earlier about how he's been acting up."
"That's one way to put it. When he asked me that, I told him I had no idea," she explains. "He said something like: 'Malfoy's coming for her', like what the hell is up with that?"
"What?" I ask, my head snapping up to look at her. "Is he mad?"
"Starting to think he could be," she agrees, her eyes looking nervous.
"I just can't understand what made him act this way, so drastic, so fast," I say, scratching my head.
"A spell maybe?" She offers quietly and I gasp at the idea.
"You don't think?" I whisper back to her, trying to keep my voice down if a professor hears.
"Hello ladies," Jack says, coming up on us and putting his arms around our shoulders.
"Merlin's beard!" Gen says scared.
"Bloody hell Jack," I sigh, grabbing my heart.
"Oh please, I'm not that good," he says with a laugh. "Genevieve, Dean's looking for you."
"What do you mean?" She asks, very concerned. I wonder why, they just saw each other this morning.
"He said he couldn't find you this morning," Jack says and I look at Gen to see her looking at me with fear in her eyes.
"Well, I best be off then," she says quickly before walking off.
"What's up with her?" Jack asks, looking at me but my eyes are still on her back that is all the way down the hall now.
"She lied," I say to myself.
"What, Emmaline?" He asks me.
"Nothing. She must be in a rush," I tell him, but my eyes are still straight forward at where she once was. "Let's just get to potions."

Once I walk into the classroom, Genevieve turns around and makes eye contact with me but she looks away as quickly as possible. She's sitting with Dean, leaving Seamus in an empty spot. Guess I know where I'm sitting today.
