Once everyone walked through the doors a tall, black haired witch wearing Emerald-Green robes stood before them. "She kind of reminds me of father," Draco thought. "But her expression is softer...kinder."
"The firs' years, Professor McGonagall." Said Hagrid. "Thank you, Hagrid I will take them from here." Said the Professor. She pulled open another door that led to an entrance hall. While everyone was gasping and looking around in awe Draco kept a straight face the entire time. For it reminded him of his own manor.
They followed Professor McGonagall across the stone floor. She showed them a small empty chamber. They all got into it. Crowded, it felt. "Welcome to Hogwarts. The start of term banquet will begin shortly, but before you take your seats in the Great Hall, you will be sorted into your houses." She said facing the children. "Houses? Oh she must be talking about the four houses. I must get into Slytherin." Draco thought.
Draco zoned out as the professor went on. "The four houses...Gryffindor... and Slytherin." At the sound of Slytherin Draco looked up paying full attention. "The sorting Ceremony will take place in a few minutes in front of the rest of the schools. May i suggest you all smarten yourselves up as much as you can." The professor looked around. "I shall return when we are ready for you, Please wait quietly." She left the chamber and everyone started talking.
"What house do you want to be in Draco?" Crabbe asked looking at the door.
"Slytherin, of course. It's the best house, and my entire family were in Slytherin when they attended Hogwarts." Draco replies as if it were obvious. All of a sudden there were nothing but gasps. Twenty pearly white but transparent ghost streamed through the wall. They were talking. Draco didn't bother to listen. He felt it didn't concern him. What a couple of ghost were talking about. He was focused on getting into Slytherin.
"New students!" One of them said. "I suppose your all about to be sorted." A few people nodded. "Hope to see you in Hufflepuff! My old house." "Move along now, the sorting ceremony is about to start." Professor McGonagall had returned. "Form a line please. Then follow me." Draco felt a bit silly at being in a line and not being in the front but he complied and got into the line.
The professor lead them into the Great Hall. It was huge thousands of candles floating in the air, four long tables lined with gold plates and goblets. Then at the top of the hall was a table were the teachers sat. The ghost were floating above the other students and the ceiling was black and dotted with stars.
Professor McGonagall placed a four legged stool in front of all the first years. On top she placed a simple hat. "That's what's gonna sort us? That old thing can we even be sure it works?" Draco whispered to Crabbe and Goyle who chuckled behind him. Everyone just stared at it. Then it twitched and a rip opened like a mouth. Then the hat began to sing:
"Oh, you may not think i'm pretty. But don't judge on what you see, I'll eat myself if you can find a smarter hat that me. You can keep your bowlers black, your top hats sleek and tall, For i'm the Hogwarts sorting hat and i can top them all..."
"Sorting hat?" Draco whispered. "Yeah apparently it can tell what house you belong in." A boy Draco didnt know said. The hat continued:
"You'll make your real friends, those cunning folk use any means to achieve their ends. So put me on! Don't be afraid! And don't get in a flap! Your in safe hands, for i'm a thinking cap."
When the hat finished it's song the entire Great Hall broke into applause.
"Now, let's try on the hat shall we?" Professor McGonagall said smiling at the first years.
