Lacy
I ran as fast as I could, my heart pounding in my ears, blood rushing through my brain, the frostbitten air stinging like hell as I gasp for the siltiest bit of air. The only thing keeping me going throughout this storm was Troy. He hadn't eaten in days and I left him for too long. What if he falls asleep and doesn't wake up.... I, I can't. No. Just run.
I look up the street at the broken lamp posts buried deep in the foggy sleet. I see the pile of logs under the once lilac willow tree and sprint past it with the soggy, torn bag over my shoulder. My feet hit the gravel ground and skid as I try to make a sudden turn to the right through the dark, narrow alley way. My leg gave out and I crash into a worn, fallen support beam. "Fuck" I screech clenching my knee. I don't dare to look down at it, I just pull myself up and scurried towards the rusted metal door just a few feet in front of me. I grasp the handle with my worn mitts and pull with all my might but its frozen shut. I yank and pull and pound with everything I had but I wouldn't budge. My tired pale green eyes let out salty drops of pain as my head droped and I yell aggressively at the piece of metal that is separating me from my only family. My muscles feel week and I stop shivering. My vision is blurry and my body begins to shut down with every breath I take.
Troy, oh troy why did I leave you for so long. If only I had stayed, maybe brought you with me. No theres no use thinking about the what ifs. I can't and will not leave troy.
I'm knocked back by the blow of the steel hitting my face. I feel thick soupy like blood seep from the wound. I felt a soft hand on my arm and back propping me upright. I was disoriented, dizzy, numb but I couldn't stop mumbling "Troy, Troy, Tr...."I awoke to warmth. Warmth? And soft hands tending to my wound. I was laying down and I could smell a faint sugary-sour sent.
Troy...
"Troy?" I murmured, "Troy?"
I opened my eyes to see troy sitting on my left holding my hand, rubbing my palm. with cold fingers. His eyes were concentrating carefully on my hand and as I squeezed it he held it tighter.
"Wait.." I whipped my head towards the stranger tending to my wound, "WHO THE HELL ARE YOU?"
I reached for my knife and pulled it on him, aiming it towards his chest. Troy suddenly grabbed it front me and threw it in a panic. He rocked back and forth, shaking his head violently. By habit I reached out to rub his shoulder but stopped myself knowing the man was still there.
I went for his neck but he grabbed my wrist, I then used my other hand to punch him in the jaw but he grabbed my fist. I looked up at his face with hatred and then he spoke.
"Ssshhh, you need to rest."
My head started to spin and he held it in his hands gentley laying me back down.
"Close your eyes. I'll wake you when its time to eat." he massaged me temples and I felt myself drifting off.
