Lacy

"Hey," I felt someone's cold, soft hand gently touching my cheek. I could feel my face heating up as I opened my eyes. They locked on his warm, grey ones and I sat up, startled.
"Shhh," He held the back of my scalp and proper me up againsed a pile of rubble that was once a wall.
He was wearing a torn blue shirt, smudged dark jeans, and scuffed black boots. He was attractive, i'll admit it, but he still hit me with a huge steel door and I didn't know him at all.
"Why are you helping us?" I questioned, rubbing my head.
"I'm sorry about the door thing," He glanced at Troy. He was laying against a pile of debris. "The, um, he..."
"His name is Troy." I explained bluntly.
"Troy..." He flashed a smile, "I found him here, curled up on the floor, he was so pale I thought he was... anyways, I threw my bags down and fixed up a fire," he pointed to the pile of ashes under the fallen cement beam.
"Who are you?" I inched away from him.
"Jay."
"Jay? Whats it short for?"
"Just Jay," He got to his feet and sauntered off to start a fire, "You?"
I looked to my left at the fading sun. The broken window caused a frosty draft and I shivered.
"Lacy. Troys my brother," I said, he turned his head, "How long..."
"Almost a day. You needed rest and Troy's not that hard to handle."
He glanced at me smiled and then I saw the pain in his eyes.
Everything became slow and foggy as a blast shook the ground.
I heard screaming.
~~~
Troy was overwhelmingly horrified. Completely soaked in his own tears when Jay grabbed him and carried him over to me. I nestled Troy into my chest and watched as Jay grabbed rubble and pilled it up around us.
"What are you doing?" I hissed.
"Trust me." He grabbed an old, grey bottle out of his bag and sprayed it over the short wall he had created. The holes and dry cement moulded together and the wall seemed to grow.
"How-what?" I mumbled astonished.
He threw his bags and himself over the wall before it grew to the size of the ceiling. Concealing us in a cement triangle.
He let out a huge sigh and started chipping a hole in one of the original two walls.
"Hold your breath as long as you can. If you have to, only take short breaths." He instructed, "And no talking."
I slowly turned my head, petrified, eyes blurry from the tears. He was chipping away so fast. His eyes focused and breath held. He had done this before, what ever this is.
I held my breath for as long as I could and when I finally gasped for air there was none. I forgot Troy was having a panic attack and was hyperventilating.
There was no more air.
No air.
I grabbed the chisel from Jay and pushed him over. I saw the panic in his eyes and he saw mine. I gasped for air and I started striking and chipping and pounding and thrashing the cement. I could feel my lungs becoming stale and I heard Jay and Troy gasping for any air at all.
Finally the cement circle crumbled and I had got through to the other room. I had never been so happy to breath that frozen, tangy shit. We all started gasping for air.
"What.... Th-The HELL," I yelled tucking my sticky hair behind my ear.
"Shhh," He covered my mouth.
I swatted his hand but he scooted over and held me tight. He could see the panic in my eyes but he looked more worried than I did.
"Etales! Nous ne laissons pas jusqu'a ce que le bâtiment est effacé de tous les clandestins! Bougez-vous! Bougez-vous!" A Deacon commanded.
"What-what did he say?" I whispered with tears in my eyes.
"I think he told them to spread out and search for illegals," He frowned, "I need you to be quiet and take care of troy, ok?"
"O-okay," I nodded neurotically, "Hey Troy, shhh, its ok."
I scooted over to him and rubbed his arms. I looked up at Jay, he was peering through the hole, trying to see what the Deacons were saying or doing or something. I was too scared of him and everything that had just happened so I stayed quiet.
