"I am telling you, Stephan, she is no ordinary girl. You should have been there." Eddie had completed his narration. Yet looking at Stephan, he could tell he was having a hard time processing the information.
Stephan's mind was in the hospital room, he can't believe the fragile-looking girl they just saw is capable of snapping a rogues neck. He still can't explain the strange experience, his beast was still strangely calm, does not see any threat. And with what he heard, he wasn't so sure of it anymore. Looks like he can't explain anything anymore. What the hell is going on?
Looking at Eddie, he knew his friend wasn't lying. Rouges are the only threat to them. If anyone of them stupid enough to cross the border, their patrols won't let them leave alive. It was the one rule they live by. Rouges are enemies, not friends, their beast is not sane, anything or anyone in front of them is merely their prey. That's why he wanted to wring his beat friends neck when he heard he brought a rouge in their territory.
But what was it? Yes, they live in the mythical world, according to humans they are not even supposed to exist. But there are not many mythical creatures anymore - just Werewolves, Vampires and Witches. And then there are rogues. Some scrolls and old textbooks are found at the libraries, that talk about these creatures. Who knows maybe they simply may lurk in the shadows hidden from the world.
Despite the popular belief werewolves and vampires are not enemies. Well, they don't dwell well with each other, so both of them keep to themselves. Even though in histories they talk about great wars waged by both the factions. But they are what it is, histories and stories the elders of the pack now so fondly tell the children to scare them at the gatherings. He remembers the time where he was one of the curious wide-eyed kid. And witches, they like to keep to themselves. Most even forgot that they exist.
Other than the rogues, they don't mostly deal with anything strange up until now.
It is easy to distinguish a rogue, their eyes will be blood red and feral. And they stung of rotten flesh smell, it smells like death. If they spot others they will always, always go for the kill.
Stephan shook his head, the only person who can help them untangle this mess is unconscious on the hospital cot.
"Inform me. If there is any update or just anything." Stephan told his beta in a dismissing tone. Eddie walked away with a nod of his head. Strange or not looking at the paperwork he had to finish, Stephan divided into his work.
Eddie walked slowly to his office, his mind is still whirling with the events that happened. He plopped himself on the chair facing the window, with a long sigh, he carelessly ran a hand through his face. Well, today was a long day. Outside it was getting dark, marking the end of the day.
Other than the rogues attack, and occasional disagreements over the border control packs all over the world live peacefully.
The opening of the door brought him out of his reverie. A sweet scent filled his nostrils, his beast stirred within him. Unknowing to him, his mouth stretched to a splitting smile. Only one person can bring him this feeling, his mate, Amelia.
"Hey baby, are you ready to head home." A pair of arms wrapped his middle, without much hesitation his hand reach for her. He and his beast were at peace, that only a mate could bring their other half.
Eddie turned around so that he was facing her, his mate. Her eyes were smiling at him, there were shining under the warm light in the room. The only woman who can bring him to his knee, he would gladly lay his life down for the goddess in front of him. Her warm smile, he olive skin and her unruly hair, a rare and mysterious beauty. He leaned down and captured her lips for a much-needed kiss, his hands pulled her to him. They both pulled apart only when the existential air became threatening.
"You bet. I am." With their hands holding each other, both went out of the building.
"So, how was your day." Amelia broke the silence in the car, as the drive to their home.
"Good. You know the same, paperwork, patrolling. " Eddie didn't want her anywhere near what happened today.
"Hmm.." Amelia hummed along. "So, nothing interesting happened." She tried again.
"No," Eddie answered with a shrug. Eddie brought their entwined hands and pecked her hand. He felt herself calming through their bond.
Eddie pulled his hand out when they reached home.
"Go freshen up. I will start on dinner." Amelia's voice reached him. With a nod, he went upstairs to their room. He heaved a long sigh. He said a silent prayer to the moon goddess for the tomorrow or whatever it is.
Only if he knew how much their life is about to change.
