SHE WASN'T exactly sure when it happened, or even when it started

SHE WASN'T exactly sure when it happened, or even when it started. All she knew for sure was that she was falling into death's open embrace. The cold comfort of everlasting sleep sat at the bottom, waiting for Lonnie's arrival with open arms. But the cold was not something Lonnie wanted, rather it was something she now deeply despised. But not even Lonnie could save herself. She was falling. Sinking to the ground at a rapid speed as gravity failed to catch her as she slipped through the warm hands of life.

All at once something hard had rammed into Lonnie's side, the force of it pulling her away from the deadly grasp of the cold depths of death. She couldn't stop the way her arms quickly clung onto the surprising broad shoulders of Peter Parker, well, Night Monkey. "Holy shit." Lonnie muttered as realization quickly dawned upon her. She had almost died. Almost as quickly as she'd been thrown into the air, Lonnie's feet were placed on the security of the hard concrete ground.

"Are you alright, miss?" A small look of confusion formed on Lonnie's face at the extremely poor attempt on Peter's behalf of making his voice deeper than it actually is but Lonnie chose to ignore it and instead allowed herself to let go of him.

"Fine thanks to you." She nodded before pointing up to the ferris wheel where Ned and Betty still sat. "But my friends are up there."

"No need to worry." Peter reassured before shooting a web in the ferris wheel's direction. "I'll get them somewhere safe. But you need to get out of here."

A black car pulling up suddenly caught Lonnie's attention as Peter swung away towards the ferris wheel. The car looked familiar, like she'd seen it many times before in her lifetime but she couldn't quite pinpoint from what. Confusion was quick to wash over her as she stared at it, but her confusion was quick to die as she watched none other than Maria Hill climb out of the car.

"Beck!"

Lonnie hadn't even known she had zoned out until a big ball of green was suddenly sent passing by her. Her eyes were quick to grow wide and she couldn't stop her hart from stopping for a second. She had held her breath immediately figuring it to be some kind of gas before she realized that it had had been Mysterio's powers killing the monster. Green sparkled rained down on them like ash. On a normal day that would have been fascinated by it, but today was not a normal day and something else had peeked her interest instead; Maria Hill.

Before Lonnie had been in the custody of Natasha Romanoff, she was a child of S.H.I.E.L.D. One raised among them after she was saved from her home town where disaster had struck. Before Lonnie had Natasha Romanoff, she had Maria Hill.

"Maria?" The name rolled off Lonnie's lips as a mere whisper as she slowly made her way towards the woman. She had paid no mind to the other two black cars pulling up or the fact that Mysterio was now laying unmasked on the ground beside who Ned claimed to be Spider Monkey. All that mattered to Lonnie was getting to the woman she so desperately missed. "Maria?!"

She missed her. Lonnie missed Maria very much. But she didn't miss her for the right reasons. She didn't long to see Maria in the time she's been away from her and she didn't feel the need to even try to contact her since Tony Stark's funeral. Lonnie Romanoff missed Maria Hill so dearly because she missed her mother. In a way, Maraia Hill reminded Lonnie of Natasha Romanoff. Lonnie just wanted her mother back into her life and in her utterly broken mind it was trying to piece together that Maria was as close as she could get. Her mind was forcing it upon itself that the motherly love only Natasha could bring toward Lonnie would somehow be passed down to Maria. She knew it was selfish and wrong, especially since Laura Barton has done anything and everything she can to be a mother to Lonnie.

Maria's gaze snapped up from Quinten Beck to the young teenage girl as she all but sprinted towards her. "Lonnie?" Maria had barely any time to prepare before Lonnie all but threw herself onto her. Lonnie couldn't stop the tears that pricked the corners of her eyes or the lump that was beginning to form in her throat as she clutched onto Maria. "Kid, what are you doing here?"

"I-I was on a school trip." A small frown formed on Lonnie's face as she spotted the tour bus driver standing beside the car Maria had come out of. "What a minute." Loonie's eyes widened slightly once they finally landed on Nick Fury. "Did you guys hijack my trip?"
