"Should I text him?" Serenity asked, her arms folded as she stared at her phone screen before glancing up at Darcie as an uncomfortable look was painted on the girls face, "Nevermind I feel too nervous to."
"Just say hey," Darcie shrugged, mixing her ice cream in the tub she had bought as the girl opposite her took a deep breath, "Why are you so anxious to text your boyfriend?"
"Well he's technically not my boyfriend," Serenity shrugged, a frown on her face, "I just don't want to be annoying after he said I could try be a better girlfriend."
"See, that is what gets me." Darcie sighed, placing the tub down and leaning forward in her seat, "Because you shouldn't have to change yourself to meet his expectations and he himself hasn't been absolutely perfect so why is he only criticising you?"
"I haven't been-"
"He's putting that thought inside your head, Ren." She interrupted her, "He made you think you've been a bad girlfriend despite you listening to all his requests, if anything the relationship seems to be growing toxic, would you agree?"
Hesitantly nodding, Serenity let out a sigh as her shoulders dropped, "Yeah, I don't want to make this sound like he's a bad boyfriend but I just feel like it's going to turn out like how Josh was."
"Like the first signs of it?" She asked as Serenity nodded, "Ok I see where you're coming from but remember that just because you had one bad experience with someone it doesn't mean everyone is like that, you need to think about how Zach is like when he's mad, does he shout at you?"
"No," Serenity shook her head, "He raises his voice slightly but he apologises for that and gives himself some space before we talk it out."
"Ok what about when he's mad at someone that isn't you, does he take it out on you?"
"Never," Serenity shook her head again.
"Is he controlling?"
"Well.." She shrugged slightly, "He asked to see my phone one time and Josh did that a lot."
"Ok let's throw Josh out the picture," Darcie said, gesturing with her hands as the girl furrowed her eyebrows, "Here's what I think from what you've told me. Zach feels like he isn't receiving as much attention because of your career and all and I think he's just trying to get your relationship back to how it was before you both got busy."
"You on the other hand, I think that you don't like the idea of being put back into a small box now that you're branching out more and that's what has lead to the conflict," Darcie explained as Serenity looked up at her, slowly nodding, "I just think there's something you're both missing that you need to get back again."
"...Time," Serenity slowly nodded as a wave of realisation hit her, "We don't have time for each other, that's what it is."
"See, thats what's missing," Darcie said through a small laugh as she gave the girl a small smile, picking up her tub of ice cream again, "Look, talk it out over FaceTime or a call so then when he comes to the EP release on the 14th, you'll be on good terms again."
"So in conclusion, I should text him?" Serenity said as Darcie quickly nodded, watching her pick up her phone, "What do I say?"
"Just say hey for now," Darcie told her, "And then work on fixing things with Treasure and the friend group."
"Yeah, I actually need to talk to them all individually." Serenity replied, typing at her screen before putting her phone back down, "I have no idea what I would do without you."
"I'm literally a therapist," She laughed, "Let's be glad that's my dream job."
"Go for it," the girl opposite her said, her eyes widening slightly, "Darcie do it, be a therapist."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes! You'd be so good." Serenity smiled.
"Ok, I'll see what I can get started," Darcie nodded, before letting out a small laugh, "Let me know how everything goes and if you have another panic attack like last night just call me, ok?"
"Yeah, thank you." The girl replied, letting out a small sigh of relief as she looked back at her phone screen with an unsure look on her face, hoping that what Darcie said would be the thing she needed to get back to where she was with the friend group.
