Chapter Three- Rocks

~~~
Artemisia's P.O.V
"Ok, Mr Daniels is distracted let's go." Callum said, as we sneaked away. We entered a group of tightly packed trees and started searching the ground.
"Found anything yet?" I asked a few minutes later, hoping that he at least found something.
"No, I- wait I found one!" He said and pulled out a massive rock. And when I say massive, I mean one of the, has-to-use-two-hands-to-hold-it-it's-that-big kind of rocks.
"Wow! There are tons down here!, I'll get them out, and you put them in the bags."
"Ok." I said, whilst putting rocks in each of the four bags (obviously I would have the one without the rocks in it).
After a while, we had filled the bags with the rocks, so we started to walk back over to the rest of the year group.
"Do you think she will noticed that her bag is heavy?"
"Like I said Kathy isn't the smartest person in our year."  Callum said smiling. I hoped he was right, I don't want to spend the rest of the week with a complaining Kathy, I thought.
"Kathy."  She spun around at the sound of my voice. "Nice to see you here." I said sarcastically. I dropped the bags by her feet but left mine on my shoulder. "I have the map, so let's move." I turned around to go, but I then heard Kathy speaking.
"This bag is so heavy, let put my compact mirror in it." She dropped the bag on the floor and was about to open it. I had to think quickly even if made no sense.
"Oh, you don't want to do that," I said running up to her. She stopped what she was doing and glared at me.
"Why not?" She asked, clearly agitated.
"Because..." I said as I tried to come up with something silly that only Kathy would believe. "It could brake the mirror." I said and even I wasn't sure where this was going. "Just think about it, if your bag weighs so much, then won't all of the heavy items crack the mirror? And even though you obviously brought a second mirror," I made an asumption, based on the kind of person she was: a spoilt, popular, brat. "It won't be as good as that one. Will it?"
"I...guess...uh..." She stumbled, surprised at me, for actually making sense. Well in her mind, anyway. "You're right. I'll put in my purse."
I thought it stupid that she had brought a purse along with her. To the forest. On a five day residential trip. And she brought a purse.
"Well, let's head of then." I said fed up of talking to Kathy. I saw Callum, and as he looked over at me, I waved him goodbye.
...
It felt like we had been walking for hours, and we probably had seeing as the sun was now high in the sky beating down on us. Kathy, as I had expected, kept whining aboult how her bag was to heavy, or that the bugs annoyed her- even though there were very few bugs, how the sun was to hot, how we should take a rest per every five minutes. I decided to try and block Kathy's voice out of my mind, which was a very hard thing to do and took a lot of effort, but I just about managed. I, on the other hand, was enjoying the swealtering heat aginst my arms and legs, and the adventure of the unknown (even if this was a well known route, and we did have a map).
We got to some cross roads. Well I say cross roads, I actually mean to very worn down paths, which hundreds of feet must have troden on.
"Ok. The map says we go right. So let's go right." Kathy said in a very matter-of-fact-ly voice. I looked over her shoulder at the map and noticed that she was holding it the wrong way up.
"No, you're holding it the wrong way up. We should be going left." I pointed out. How could someone get a map the wrong way round?
"I'm holding it the right way up. You're just not looking propaly." She said glaring at me, but I just ignored her and pretended that I hadn't noticed.
"Mr Daniels said we need to go north. Right? Well north is that way." I showed her my compass with the arrow pointing left. I had got it from my grandfather when I was little and had said I wanted to be an explorer when I was older. It was a beautiful golden colour with a silver arrow in the middle. On the front  were engraved paterns of ivy and what looked to be some kind of star, with curved edges and swirls in the center.
"What is that?" Kathy said in a disgusted voice, whilst pointing at my compass.
"Have you ever heard of a compass before?" I said, crossing my arms and shocked that she haden't seen one before.
"Have you ever heard of stylish clothes?" She shot back, making her and her friends laugh.
"Have you ever heard of trainers?"  I replied looking down at her feet and raising an eyebrow. She was wearing red ballet pumps on a nature walk. A NATURE WALK! Kathy could tell I had won, and so just replied in an annoyed voice. "Well I'm going this way," She gestured to the right. "So you can do what ever you want, because I'm certainly not following you."
"Fine. Bye!" I said and started walking away from her. Like I was gonna take sass, from her.
"Yeah, bye! I hope you get lost on your way!"
"Thank you for your consideration, and I'll see you at the top!" I shouted back at her in a sarcastically chirpy voice, not even bothering to stop and turn around.
