Chapter Seven- The Girl

~~~
Fox's P.O.V
I was in my hut, unpacking some off the fish I had collected from the river, when I saw what looked to be smoke coming from the other side of the lake. Curiosity got the better of me, and I brought my dagger, in case of danger, even though I knew it was probably only a forest fire. But, still, you could never be too careful.
Taking my boat over the shimmering water of the almost entirely still lake, I noticed that it was to big to be a man made fire. I knew I should turn back. I was thinking of turning back. I was turning back. Until I heard voices. There were people in there. In the fire.
I quickly moved the boat back round and brought it onto the bank as hastily as I could manage, without it sliding back into the lake. I held my breath and ran into the smoke.
...
It was even worse than I had imagined a fire could be. It felt like I was a fish that was not yet dead, but was still being held over the fire to be cooked. My foot caught something and my body plummeted towards the ground. I should have known better than this. I was a trained warrior and I tripped over a flat surface. Now that took skill. I then realized it wasn't a flat surface. Which was even more stupid of me, because I should have seen it there. I turned onto my back and sat up. Lying in front of me was a foot. Yes, a human foot. No, I'm not kidding. There was just a foot there. What? Then I realized, the foot was attached to a body. Idiot. I thought to my self. I looked at the body more closely and realized there was a girl on the floor asleep. Yes, asleep. In the middle of a fire. What in hell is going on today? I thought to myself.
I didn't have time to think about what I was doing. I scooped her up in my arms, and ran towards the boat. I laid her down carefully in the back, and started paddling away, the smoke starting to choke me.
...
I dragged the boat on to the other side of the lake, I then pulled the mysterious girl out of the boat, and into my arms again. She was still asleep, which I found hard to believe. Now that I was out of the flames and smoke, I could take a better look at her. She was very beautiful. Her dirty blonde hair was tucked into a side plait, running down the right side of her face. I couldn't see her eyes, as they were closed. She wasn't overly tall, just a bit shorter than me, but her lips showed the faint trace of a smirk, like she had just outwitted someone, or left them standing there, wondering what had just happened.
I lay her down on the layers of fur skins I had as a bed. I got back to my fish, preparing it to go over the fire, as my meal. I felt kind of sorry for the fish, which I shouldn't have. But it wasn't his fault, he had ended up dead. He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Kind of like that girl. I looked over at her and she started to stir. It took her three seconds to notice me. The first she seemed to be confused as to where she was, the second she was panicked at how she had arrived here, from the forest, and the third she was forming a plan to get out. Then her eyes fell on me. Her eyes were one of the most interesting and beautiful things about her. They were an odd shade of green, bright, but had a hint of gold in them, dulling down the colour, so that they were less vibrant and more curious. She stared at me for what felt like forever. I started to feel slightly awkward under her stare and decided to break the silence.
"Hey. I'm Fox." I told her. "I found you in the fire. I kind of just saved your life."
