"Princess Chaewon, I think it's about time you came downstairs" Mark's voice echoed from outside Chaewon's room door.
She had been laying in her room for days after the loss of her father..
The funeral was nothing but heart wrenching and just a reminder that Chaewon should have thought before she spoke.
Words of sentiment fell from her mouth when she spoke at the funeral and it was almost like she had forgotten about the argument they had mere days ago. She missed her father and now, she was lost without him.
She hadn't left her room in days. Sulking and thinking about past memories her and her father had together. She hadn't showered, brushed her teeth, or done basic human functions except for when Kahei had forcefully shoved a sandwich in her mouth, trying to get her to at least eat something.
But as the days passed on, today was the one and only de-thone ceremony.
The ceremony where Sir Park was supposed to crown the newest leader of Nostalgia but as you could tell, things went a bit...differently.
But Kahei wasn't having any of that.
"Come one Chaewon, time to get moving" Kahei comes bursting through the blonde's door. She dragged the girl by her blonde roots out of her room door and into the dining hall where her servant, Mark Lee, head of Management and law, was waiting for her.
Kahei then sat Chaewon down in a chair, fixed her hair, fixed her clothes, gave her a breath mint and brought her focus over to where Mark was.
"Thank you, Kahei" Mark thanks his fellow servant and heads towards Chaewon before plopping a book right in front of her face. The loud noise immediately took Chaewon out of her sulking gaze as she realized who she was in front of.
"So, as you know today is the annual de-throne ceremony. Today would have been the day your father would have crowned the new ruler of Nostalgia in front of the entire kingdom, but as of recent news...that won't exactly be happening" Mark starts off and Chaewon can't help but glare at her servant.
Mark Lee wasn't exactly Chaewon's favorite servant. He was almost like an annoying parrot that threatened to follow her every time she did something wrong. He was a spinning image of her father and she completely hated it. But that didn't mean he wasn't helpful. He kept Chaewon organized and was always there for her. Despite how annoying he was.
"As you see here the rules of Nostalgia riches on page 12 state that if the ruler were to die on any events of death, he or she's daughter or son shall take over for them. If not, a cousin, brother, sister, uncle, aunt or distant relative shall take over instead"
Chaewon's face immediately lit up. Was she hearing things right? Does this mean she could finally take over the throne like she's' dreamed?
"But as tradition, the last wish on your father wish list was, and I quote 'If I Were To Die Before The Anual De-Throne Ceremony, Chaewon Shall Not Take Over The Throne And A Competition Shall Be Placed Instead' " Mark utters the words on the small piece of gold paper and Chaewon couldn't even act surprised if she wanted too.
Of course one of her father's last wishes was for her not to take over. And sadly, no matter what Chaewon could try to do, on the last page of the law book....
~The wishes of a Ruler shall not be broken, dead or alive~
"Sorry Chaewon, there seems to be nothing I can do." Mark bids his farewells and Chaewon lets out a heavy sigh. It wasn't exactly like she could leave so she had no choice but to go along with what her father had planned. But what exactly was that?
"Gosh this is so stupid..." Kahei whispers under her breath, catching the attention of Mark who quickly protested. "The rules of the land are not stupid Kahei, truly a servant like you should know this."
"Seriously? This is nothing but bullshit Mark, and you know it" Kahei states and uproar arises between the two servants. Insults being thrown back and forth as Chaewon watched with an expressionless face. This had always been the case between those two.
But as this was going on, a tap on Chaewon's shoulder caught her attention quickly. "You seemed stressed, so I made you a cake" Another servant of Chaewon's, Kang Hyewon, head of food and snacks, gave Chaewon a small slice of Chocolate cake, her favorite.
And Chaewon was going to dig in but the site of a bite mark caught her off guard. "Why is there a small bite here?" Chaewon questions and a small blush formed on Hyewon's cheeks."I may have been hungry" Typical.
Chaewon was becoming quickly tired of the Chaos around her and stood up from her chair, slamming her hands on the table and spreading silence around the room.
"Can we please just get this over with? What is this whole competition thing my father had written about?" Chaewon asks, and Mark quickly stops his argument and looks at the wish list of her father.
"A Competition Shall Be Placed Where All The Tribes Of Nostalgia Have Their Best Two Heirs Participate In An Obstacle, Formal And Tactical Challenges To Show Their Value And Ability To Take Over The Throne."
"Tally's Shall Be Kept And Out Of The Final Three, The Heir Who Has Won The Most Amount Of Challenges Shall Be Crowned The Throne." Mark reads out in capital form (somehow) and Chaewon just dreads everything she's hearing.
"So you're telling me I have to watch ten gross, sweaty and horny male heir's battle in place for my rightful throne??" Chaewon couldn't fathom how much she was going to dread this.
"Actually, it was never stated whether or not their heir's had to be male or female. It actually says that you get to choose...:" Mark was confused on what he was reading. "So is it female or male Chaewon. The choice is yours...sadly" Mark sighs, putting the wish list down with a roll of his eyes.
"Female, at least I've met some of them." Chaewon sighs, looking over to Kahei who had a small smile on her face for an apparent reason.
"What a shame. And to think we could have gotten the one and only Jeon Jungkook from the Starlight tribe to arrive." Mark grunts, writing something down on a piece of scroll paper with ink and a pen. He had then rolled up the paper and quickly called for Chaewon's other servant. Choi Yena, head of announcements, entertainment, and tools.
"Yena, I need you to make copies of these and deliver them to the heads of each tribe. Got it?" Mark asks, handing Yena the paper as the duck-like girl quickly salutes, "I won't let you down Mark" Yena runs off but soon quickly stops.
"Wh-where's the printing room again?" Yena shyly asks as Mark sighs, pointing out into the distance as the duck then continues on her way.
"Listen, as much as I would love to have things differently I can't disobey the rules of your highness." Mark bows, leaving the chambers with his things.
"Are you sure you wanna do this Chaewon, it's not too late to make our escape-" Kahei was silenced by Chaewon.
"No Kahei, let's watch this happen. As much as I am disappointed, I know the heirs of this town. And with the way they act....I have a feeling this is going to be interesting."
