Whisper in the woods

Chapter 4

"Pull yourself together Maddie, stay strong and be careful!" I lectured myself while pacing in my bedroom, I have to leave for guarding in a minute and I'm so nervous that it's not funny. "Madison, it's your turn to guard. Go to your post" Tim said through the door, he always was on guard before me. "Ok I'm coming!" I replied then dashed out the door and nearly knocked Tim over.

"Ow!" he yelped as he hit the wall with a loud thud. I turned to face him with my hand over my mouth for a split second only to mutter a quick, "Sorry" then run down the stairs and out the door. I sprinted to my post at the lake and was there in thirty seconds flat. "Now to play the waiting game" I sighed as I sat down with my feet dangling in the water carelessly.

"Hello Maddie" said a familiar voice the sent shivers down my spine as a pair of arms wrapped around me, setting off an explosion of sparks that tingled all through my body. "Hey Adriel" I murmured softly as I turned to face him and smiled. He slowly sat at the waters edge with me and left his feet dangling in the refreshingly cool water.

"I want to get to know you Maddie, my mate" Adriel suddenly spoke, turning to face me properly. "Okay but we need to stay quiet, these woods seem to echo if you speak too loud" I replied and he simply nodded in understanding.

"So what rank are you in your pack?" Adriel asked in a whisper with curiosity blooming in his aqua eyes. "I am the Alpha's adoptive daughter, what about you?" I whispered back, expecting him to question the adoptive part but he didn't. His eyes just went wide with horror. "I-I'm a rogue but it's like a pack, I don't know if we can be together" Adriel said hesitantly.

"But why?" I asked as my hand covered his but he pulled it away quickly, like a reflex to being poked with a hot piece of silver. "You know Jason, the man leading a war against your pack? He's my adoptive father, he took me in when his mate went of with another man when I was only 9. My parents were killed when I was 3 so I was raised by the pack but they happily handed me over into Jason's care. He wasn't always insane, he used to be so loving but a few months ago he went full mindless rogue. Hatred and revenge are all that he thinks about now and he wants me to be by his side when he invades your pack to kill everyone" Adriel whimpered, I could tell it pained him to say what he did but he knew that I'd find out sooner or later.

"Wow, what are we gonna do?" I whispered in surprise, it's just my luck that I find my mate and he's perfect for me yet this war stops us. Such a Romeo and Juliet love story is just as hellish as I'd imagined! "We could always just meet when I have the time to get away from the pack in secrecy. I have guard every week on this night and for other meeting we'll have to use the mating bond to speak to each other. It's the best way we can meet without anyone finding out" I suggested but I knew that I'd go on heat soon if we weren't mated soon enough. Raina didn't have that issue since she's a profit but us normal females face this problem within a month of meeting our other half.

"Or we could run away together, just leave the war behind and join anther pack far away. We could start fresh and be happy..." Adriel replied enthusiastically. I frowned as tears welled up in my eyes, "I can't leave my family behind, I have a brother and sister. A new born baby brother too! How could I possibly leave them behind?" I began to sob in his embrace then suddenly I heard my name being called.

"Madison?! Madison where are you?!" Tim called out, it must be time for me to go I guess. I looked at Adriel and gave him a soft smile, "I'll consider it... Now go before you're caught!" I whisper yelled. He nodded and planted a kick kiss on my tear stained cheek then bolted off into the night.

"I'm coming!" I called into the night then ran towards Tim's voice in the darkness.

Sorry for the long wait my Angels, life is hectic sometimes isn't it? I really wish I could've made this chapter longer but the demands for an update made it necessary, it's more of a filler chapter. I hope to get it updated again soon just for you guys but... Oh well, it's difficult. *kisses and hugs you all* love yahs! Peace out! ✌️
