Whisper in the woods

Chapter 3

"I wanna hold him!" screamed Yana as she threw herself on the floor in a mini tantrum. Ever since Charlie was born the twins have been fighting over who gets to hold him or feed him, or even change his dirty diapers. "No! I'm cuddling Charlie not you!" Nath snapped then went back to cradling Charlie softly in his arms.

"Both of you quit complaining or I'll be the only one that can hold him!" Mum snapped angrily, she is pretty tired from taking care of the kids besides me. I can take care of myself plus I help mum out.

"Mum how about I take care of Charlie and you get ready for the war, it's close" I offered softly as mum smiled at me and nodded. She had lost the baby weight and was back in shape but still needed to prepare. All prophets that we found are staying in our pack for the sake of saving the innocent werewolves that don't deserve this.
"Thank you sweet heart, what would I do without you?" mum smiled then went to train the prophets so that they could use their powers with precise technique.

Once mum had left the room I spun around with a sigh to face Nathaniel and Yana. "Alright you cheeky little pups, out of the room so I can feed and bath Charlie. Go play with your friends" I smiled as I shooed them away from Charlie's nursery that was attached to mum and dads room.

I smiled down at the small boy and picked him up with a gentle hug. He gurgled happily as I sat him in a high chair then grabbed some baby food from the fridge in the nursery.
Charlie ate his food with such speed that I found it difficult to believe he was a month old and not the twins' age.

I hugged him tightly to my chest and smiled as he gurgled happily and babbled, slobber dripping down his adorable little face. "Your such a little grot!" I teased the baby as I wiped the slobber off of his chin then kissed him on the cheek. "You are too cute for your own good. I'm gonna enjoy showing your mate baby pictures of you with mum when your older" I laughed then watched his tiny face contort into a heap of wrinkles.

"What the- OOH GROSS!" I cried out as his diaper began to feel warm and stank like a month old hotdog. I quickly laid him down on the change table and removed the dirty diaper carefully then cleaned him up and replaced it with a new diaper. He clapped his tiny hands together happily then yawned the biggest yawn I've ever seen on a baby.

"Bedtime for Charlie bear isn't it?" I smiled as I picked up the small baby, he instantly snuggled into my chest. I slowly walked to his white crib that was cushioned with a pillow at each end for incase he managed to swap sides and many blankets for his warmth. Mum always worries about him.

As soon as his little head hit the pillow he was out like a light, snoring softly. He's always so cute when he sleeps so I watch him sleep for a few more minutes but I'm brought out of my daze by a sudden yell through the pack link. "Intruder!" Dad called through the link.

In case of these emergencies two guards came to take care of Charlie and I was sent out to search for any intruders that have somehow slipped past our guard. The guards arrived and began to stand watch over the infant as I ran out of the room to help find and capture the intruder.

Once I got out into the woods I ran through, sniffing the air frantically for the scent of whoever was dumb enough to cross the border into our territory when suddenly a gorgeous scent hit my nose. It smelt of cinnamon and sage, all I could think was "Wow". I instantly followed the tantalising smell to find the owner of it, knowing that this could only be one thing.

The person that I would spend eternity with and love forever, my mate.

I ran through the woods desperately sniffing the person out with anxiety rising inside me, what if he doesn't like me or worse! He rejects me! I know better than to reject a mate unless you have a very good reason for it since mum told me about how dad rejected her at first then went a bit crazy without her around. Without a mate you feel like you've lost the other half of your soul and you lose the will to survive anymore.

After running for five minutes I heard other frantic feet dashing through the woods and went towards them. I froze in my spot when I saw a boy that looked to be about 18 years old with sleek brown hair and eyes that were a crystal blue mixed with grass green making a soft aqua colour. He stared back at me with a look of surprise that I could tell was mirrored on my face.

His eyes looked over me then he sniffed again and realised that he was in front of someone that was from the pack that he'd crossed the borders of. In the blink of an eye he'd ran at me and pinned me to a tree, staring deep into my eyes. "What's your name my little mate?" the mystery guy asked, his voice was low, almost a whisper. I couldn't breath, our close proximity had my wolf going insane. "Madison... Madison is my name" I managed to stammer breathlessly.

"Madison, what a beautiful name for a beautiful girl. I'm Adriel" he said as he brushed a lock of my red curls behind my ear then stared into my green eyes. I was completely frozen and couldn't move at all, that was until they heard the pack warriors heading their way. "Meet me on the pack border tonight next to the lake, I'm on duty there so no one will know. Now go!" I whisper-shouted then shoved him away, his eyes were sad but he nodded then ran of into the distance.

"Are you alright Madison?!" dad yelled as he spotted me up against the tree and breathless. I took a step away from the tree then looked at him, "I'm fine, I scared the intruder off. It was a rogue that didn't realise they had trespassed. It's ok" I replied softly then bolted towards the pack house.

I have to be ready for tonight, to actually talk to my mate. I don't have duty every night though, only once a week so I'm screwed if he shows up tomorrow. I'll have to organise meetings with him because my wolf recognises a scent of someone on him from my past but she won't tell me and I can't remember. All I know is that it's not a scent that I would not want to tell mum and dad about so it will stay my little secret.

I AM SO SORRY! I seriously couldn't think of what to write but I have the full plot laid out now so I'm hoping to get more constant releases on chapters if I have time but when your going into year 9 it's difficult. Cut me some slack though, I'm only young and still learning so I am doing my best. Sorry that the chapter is short it's kind of a filler so I'll attempt to make longer chapters. Peace out! ✌️
