Chapter 6: Messy

When we came back from the theatre I was so tired I could've passed out. I crawled up the stairs and into my bed ignoring the fact I was still in my clothes. Everything was absolutely unreal to me as I drifted off.

I woke up momentarily forgetting where I was. I realized I was at my dads house and remembered I had to go back to my mom's at noon. I groaned and checked my phone even though I knew no one would've texted me at 1:00 in the morning or something.

"Chance? I'm going to work, remember to walk to your mom's soon. It's eleven-thirty," my dad called from downstairs

"Okay," I tried yelling as loud as I could after just waking up. I began getting dressed. In my spare time I decided to play around with some makeup. I put on different colored eye shadow and some mascara and eyeliner. It turned out pretty good in my opinion. I went around the house making sure there wasn't anything I should turn off or put away. After my final rounds I walked out the door. My mom's house was close by. In between my mom's and dad's houses was Harry's house. I passed by Harry's house wondering what they had done after I left. I finally reached my mom's house and entered. From the doorway I could see my mom sitting on the dining room table on the computer. She had some bottles of alcohol surrounding her, which wasn't surprising because she was pretty much an alcoholic at this point. I made my way upstairs and fiddled with the computer. I began to edit some pictures Stephanie and I had taken. I was in the middle of editing one where we're at the park watching the fountain when I heard the pounding of footsteps coming up the stairs, which was weird because my mom rarely ever came upstairs. ESPECIALLY when she was drunk or drinking. I began getting curious, but I didn't DARE open my door. Last time I'd been around her when she was drunk she yelled terrible things and threatened me. The footsteps got closer.

My heart was beating a mile a minute and my breath sped up. I wasn't going to lie, I was afraid, but I couldn't show it. My door swung open and banged against my wall. I flinched.

"There you are you little freak! You look like a clown! What did you do to your face? It was ugly enough before!" she cackled like a witch.

"What's wrong with you?" I asked. Bad idea.

"What's wrong with ME?" she slapped me in the face. I clutched my throbbing cheek.

"Wha-?" I choked out

"Oh did that hurt you little BABY?" she punched me in the gut and knocked the wind out of me. As I gasped, searching for air, she slapped me in the face again. I was clutching my gut and my cheek as tears threatened to spill over my eyelids and show weakness.

"What the HELL is wrong with you?" I screeched. She shook her head and pushed me up against the wall. She took a swig from the bottle in her hands and when she realized there was none left, she smashed it against the wall next to my face.

"You STUPID little girl!" she screamed tightening her grip around my throat. I felt air slipping from my lungs. I didn't know what to do. I frantically searched around the room for an idea, then I remembered something my mom's ex taught me. I reached my leg around the back of her knee and kicked the spot with my heel. It made her leg go weak and she dropped to the floor letting me go. I kicked her in the stomach leaving her momentarily out of breath and I leaped over her and raced down the steps. I ran out onto the sidewalk letting my legs guide me. I came up to a house and started frantically knocking, that's when I realized I was at Harry's house. Harry opened the door and in that moment tears gushed out of my eyes and flowed down my cheeks.

"Oh my God, Chance what's wrong?" Harry hugged me as I sobbed on his shoulder.

"M-m-my m-m-mom!" I choked out between tears.
