Skipper P.O.V
I follow Jack outside, up the ladder, and onto the roof. He sits on a metal box, looking dreamily into the stars. After crawling behind a vent, I listen, silent as the street tonight.
"Heya... Kath. I uhh... miss ya' round Manhattan. We all do, but... me mostly. We gots' a new kid, a goil' named Lily from Queens. She's ahh... awful pretty, but nothin' compared to youse'. I miss you, and I hope you're succeeding in England." He continued staring off into the stars, as if reaching for something far beyond the skyline, and the oceans.
"J- Jack? Are you... okay?" He spins around, tripping over a bar, falling over the edge of the roof." Jack!!!" I scream, jumping into action. I grip his wrist tightly, and pull him up, causing him to accidentally topple onto me. I slip out from under him, brushing dirt off of my pants.
"Thanks... Skipper." He sits again, patting the spot beside him. I adjust my cap, and sit. "I ah... sometimes talk to meself', feels like really talkin' to er'." I tilt my head in confusion." Who?" Jack sighs, putting his head in his dirty hands. "Katherine...". He begins to let out long, sorrowful sobs, and I put an arm around his arched back. "I'm sorry... she left you, didn't she?" He sniffs, his tears stopping. I catch a glimpse of his ageless brown eyes, before...
A sensational feeling, like a million fireworks exploding in my chest. Before I open my eyes, seeing Jack's hand on my cheek, and his lips on mine, kissing me. I keep my eyes widened, just frozen in place. He pulls back, scratching the back of his neck and clearing his throat. "Sorry, I uhh.... Kath used ta' do dat' and I'd uhh... kiss er' like that."
I just smile, kissing his forehead. "I understand. You oughta' have anudda' goil' by now, you're a fantastic kisser." He laughs, closing his big, warm hands around my small, pale ones. "Maybe I oughta'." And that same feeling is back, except this time.... I give him that feeling back in return.
When he and I finally pull back, he looks into my eyes, still holding my hands. "I know we just met, an' you deserve a nice gentleman that can support ya', will you be my goil'?" I don't say a word, I just nod. Jack smiles.
