After what seems like forever, the door to my tiny cell swings open. Oscar sneers at me, grabbing my arm and leading me down the hall. When we go into a room, he closes the door, locking it behind him. I shrink back against the wall. "W- what are you gonna do to me?" He snickers, slowly sauntering closer. "Just have a little fun, is all."
He pins my arms above my head, against the wall. He then brings his lips to mine. I try to break away, but I can't. I refuse to kiss back, though. I push him back, putting up a fist. He throws me onto the floor, and I wince in pain. He crawls on top of me, and I can feel his hot breath against my neck. I roll onto my back. He runs a hand up my leg, and then to my chest, stopping at the base of my small breasts.
Suddenly, an unknown figure emerges from the dark, throwing Oscar into the wall. The mystery person then punches him, knocking him unconscious. As the person approaches and extends a hand, the dim lighting reveals his face. Much to my surprise, Morris pulls me to my feet. I brush dirt off of my clothes, looking at him. "Why'd you do that?" He looks down at me. "Because you don't deserve this." He steps aside, revealing an open door. "Go. Before Warden Snyder comes." I run for the door, and as I stand on the doorstep, I turn back. "Thank you."
I take off running into the freezing rain. Along the way, I hide behind a barrel as a wagon carrying coal rattles by. As it turns a corner, I jump on the back, holding on as it bumps down the dirt street. When it passes the lodging house, I leap off, patting coal dust out of my clothes.
The door hangs open, and I step inside, listening to the commotion. I lean on a beam, noticing Jack's absence. I try to make my way to the stairs, but I bump into Race, who turns around. "Skip?!" I wave nervously. "Hi..." Davey runs to me, throwing his arms around me. "What the hell happened to you in there?!?" I return the embrace. "N- nothing... I'm fine." Every newsie gathers around. "Where's Jack?" I ask, looking at them all. They all exchange looks, shrugging. "We thought he was with you!" Davey exclaims. I shake my head. "They let him go, and took me instead."
Suddenly, everyone panics. "We need to find Jack!" Davey exclaims, jumping onto a crate. Everyone nods. I get a gross, churning feeling in my stomach. I end up stumbling up the stairs to the bunker, crashing into the bunkbed that I share with Jack. It doesn't feel the same without him snuggled up next to me, though. I drift off thinking about his smile, his pride, his big hands that always warm up my small, cold ones. Basically, just about him. Please be okay, Jack...
