Oh, boy I got a earful a few hours later. Mermista kept complaining about the sirens, John and the whole situation. I was tired of her repeating herself. I yawned, "Baby, I've had a long day. Come cuddle with me."
I really was exhausted from barrelling fish and other sea edibles all day.
"It's gonna bother me until I know the truth." Mermista said as she got on the bed.
She laid her head on my chest, looked into my eyes and kissed me. I kissed her pouty lips back for several minutes.
Three days later . . .
"Mommy." A young boy said, looking down in the water near dock 1. He pointed with his little seven year old finger. "What is that?" The dark object was wrapped around the thick wooden pole in the water.
His mother, a short lady with white hair said, "Don't touch that, Taye!" She tried to get a better look. Not knowing what it was she took her sons hand and they walked up to find someone to help out.
The janitor refused to touch the floating object and cursed as he walked off.
The short lady was angry that her son had heard those curse words and they walked passing by the other docks. The little boy was crying, he thought there was someone in the water and no one would help.

"Mommy, we should tell the police!" Taye cried out getting too much attention.
She turned to him sharply, "Shh! Be quiet. Whatever is in the water, well someone else will find it."
"Hey." Figg's voice said, "What's wrong?" He'd been sorting some fish from the smaller barrells.
The mother looked up in surprise. "It's nothing."
"There's something in the water!" Taye yelled up at the man. He jerked away from his mother. "Come on, I'll show you!"
"Taye!" His mother shouted but he was already running back down toward the beach and dock 1.
Figg jogged down, following the young boy.
Taye motioned for the man to come over.
Figg got as close as he could without getting in the water. It was black, but he couldn't tell what it was. "I'll handle this." He told the boy and went to get a fishing pole with a good hook on it.
The people on the beach were just as curious as Figg cast his line and then slowly pulled it in. The black something was pulled onto the sand.

"What is that?" One of the people asked.
Figg bent down and saw it was clothing. He picked it up and examined it. "I think it's a Halloween costume."
A young girl came over. "It looks like a grim reaper costume. See this is a hood and at the bottom is longer with jagged edges."
"You're right." Figg said wondering what to do with it. He took it with him and tossed it aside to let it dry.
Paulie came over about five minutes later. "Is Claw Daddy's barrell ready?" The police had let the place reopen a few days ago.
Figg nodded, "Yeah. Go ahead and take it."
Paulie was about to when he saw the black blob on the wood. "What's that?" He pointed.
"A grim reaper costume. A kid found it in the water near dock 1." Figg told him.
