Chapter 18

"A-ano  ulit 'yon dad?" parang hindi agad rumehistro sa akin ang sinabi niya.

"I said keep him company tonight." pag-uulit niya pero hindi 'yon ang gusto kong marinig.

"No... you were talking about us seeing each other more often." I glanced at Lex who was seriously looking at us as I said that to my father.

"Oh yes! He's planning to hire us for his house, that's what we're talking about this morning when you went inside my office." he innocently said as if he didn't say anything wrong.

"Ahhh..." I forced a smile before nodding.

"I know you'd agree Calli. I really want to offer him the best." he proudly said. What? Agree? Sabi ko lang naman 'ahhh'??

"Well you should talk to Gab, Atty. He's really good! You could actually talk to him, he's here!" pagrerekomend ko kay Lex at luminga-linga pa para hanapin si Gab.

"I'm talking about the best in CAECS, Callista." he tilted his head and raised his brows. I already know where this is going but I refuse to give in.

"I know! That's why I recommended Gab dad." I scoffed.

"I meant you. You're the best in the company, Engr. So you'll be assigned on th—" hindi niya natapos ang sasabihin niya dahil sumingit ako. Ayokong marinig ang sasabihin niya.

"Why don't we enjoy the night, dad? The guests would probably love to talk to you." I told him and guided him to where the guests are. Gladly, his friends were waiting to talk and bond with him.

Napabuntong hininga ako, alam ko na kung saan patungo 'yon pero ayoko pang pakinggan at tanggapin. That's too much to take for this evening. Hindi ko alam kung paano ko pa nga kinakayang tumayo dito dahil nagwawala na ang kalooban ko.

I walked to the table where my friends are. Gusto ko lang mailabas 'to dahil hindi ko alam kung paano ako magre-react, paano niya kaya kinakayang maging professional?  

I could barely look at him, his presence is making me very nervous and I don't like this feeling. Pero naisip ko rin na deserve ko 'to dahil sa ginawa ko sa kanya, I'll accept the consequences of my action.

"Hay, nananadya ata tatay ko." bumuntong hininga ako bago inagaw ang hawak na champagne ni Navi saka ininom 'yon.

Navi was weirdly looking at me, she looks a bit startled at palipat-lipat ang tingin niya sa'kin at sa likuran ko. "What?" taka kong tanong bago tumingin sa likuran ko.

Muntik ko nang maibuga ang iniinom ko, I forgot about Lex! I didn't know he was following me! Agad akong tumayo dahil sa gulat at inilahaad ang upuan sa tabi.
