(Not gonna lie I didn't really sleep that well tonight. I mostly just laid in bed and stared at the ceiling. There were a couple times I was able to close my eyes but it felt like I would just wake right back up. So when I tell you that when Maria came to "wake me up" I was dieing inside. When she said we had to go to town early that morning for an announcement, I DID NOT want to leave this bed.)

Maria came in opening the blinds and making me squint from the bright streams invading my face. I sat up slowly knowing that my hair felt horrible and so didn't my neck. I looked over at Maria as she pulled out my red dress for me to wear. Once I fully got up planting my feet on the ground I turned my head right and left hearing a satisfying pop on both ends. When I looked over I saw a Maria looking at me with a concern on her face.

"Ma'am, what in heaven was that?"

"That was my neck popping to relieve some pain."

"Your neck pops and you can still breathe?"

"Oh no, it is trust little pops that get weird knots out of your body to help relax and soothe yourself."

She just stared at me like I was crazy before turning and walking out the door leaving my dress on the bed.

"Well that was weird. Guess I should get dressed and head into town."

Putting on the red dress I then fixed my hair the best I could since I needed a bath when I arrived back here. Looking in the mirror I realized that I would look better once I took a well needed bath. I quickly left the room heading down stairs and into the connecting hall by the front.

"Ah! Miss MacDonald will you be joining us for Abrahams oath he shall be giving at the town square?"

I turned looking at Major Hewlett. He was in his full uniform with badges decorating both is shoulders and chest. Richard was just coming around the corner in his usual black outfit and white dress shirt underneath.

"Yes, she shall. I believe this I a perfect opportunity for both to take an oath to the crown and maybe then we can find some suitors for her in the royal army."

"Hold on. I am too young to marry anyone Mr. Woodhull besides I would rather wait for a gentleman to approach me about marriage."

"Well, that is the point. See once you take an oath I can take you to business trips to New York. Thus you will meet officers who will take interest and ask for friendship to evolve into marriage. You need a gentleman that will ask your hand, but who will also be able to care for you and your family."

"Ah, yes there is plenty of officers who would love to meet you. Well let us head to town and have your oaths begun."

'Is this what happened to women and girls during this time? Were they basically given to a man that could take care of her and support her with money?'

I could only internally scream in my head as we walked out the front door and climbed into the black carriage heading towards town. As the carriage made its trip I watched all the trees pass us by. The leaves were starting to change color with some falling to the ground just barely making notice to themselves. Looking at the trees and feeling the nice cool air reminded me of when I was younger with my family playing outside. Breathing in the fresh air letting it fill my lungs made me realize why I decided to live back up north into a small town away from the city and polluted air. After ten minutes we pulled into the side of the building that was across from the pub. Richard climbed out first, followed by Major Hewlett who turned around and offered his hand to assist me down. They both led me to the center of the town right by the lake where guards were keeping post on the small wooden port. I took notice that the entire regiment was gathered here waiting for the oaths to be delivered. Well I guess most of them were here since some were missing.
