"Mmmmm"

I had to force my eyes open once I saw the sun barely coming up as I finally passed out last night and got some decent sleep. Sadly my body wanted to stay in bed, but I couldn't do that. Getting ready for the day I picked the red dress to wear to New York and put my hair up in a bun, once I knew I was ready I packed my green dress and headed down the stairs.

"Safe trips sir."

"We will be back soon more than likely tomorrow."

I saw Mr Woodhull talking to the maid who then went back into the kitchen not coming out. Walking the rest of the way I reached the bottom greeting him as we both walked outside.

"Have you ever been to New York?"

"No sir, I have not."

"Well let's make this trip a fun one shall we? We will go get Abraham then head on out so we can arrive mid day."

"Sounds splendid sir."

He smiled at me making his way down the steps towards the carriage. I made my way to the top of the steps when I felt a hand on my arm.

"Miss MacDonald, I wish to not be a bother, but I have a request."

It was one of the soldiers that was posted at the door the other day holding it open for me. He was tall with broad shoulder and he had green eyes.

"You are no bother, but you don't have to call me MacDonald, Stephanie is fine."

I never liked formal names they just sound weird to me especially when it was from people younger or my age.

"Ok Miss Stephanie, you probably don't know my name, I am Edward. I know you are traveling to New York and I was wondering if you could give my mother this letter."

He handed me a small enclosed envelope with the name rose on the front.

"When was the last time you spoke to her?"

"I haven't seen her in a year and I know it is much to ask, but I just wish for her to know I am safe and doing well."

"Your name is what again soldier?"

"Edward, Edward Jest."

"If I see her Edward then yes I will give her the letter and also tell her myself you are alive and well."

"Thank you so much Miss Stephanie. How can I repay you?"

"For now keep holding doors open for ladies like a gentlemen should and I'll let you know in the future."

He smiled nodding his head at me before returning back to his spot next to the door with a huge smile still on his face. Making my way to the carriage, Richard held it open for me to climb inside, he climbed in the front and off we went to Abe's house. I know he is the enemy but I felt a sense of bliss knowing I was helping a young man let his mother know he was ok. I know what it is like for a mother to worry about her young, my mom did all the time bothering me about if I was ok or if I needed anything.

Within five minutes we were outside his house with Richard climbing down to go and get him. Sitting in the carriage I relaxed for a moment letting the air seep into my lungs with each deep breathe soothing me. Imagine what we did to the air in over 300 years that made it go from sweet fresh air to an almost toxic and smells horrible during my time. The carriage jolted shaking me from my daydream with Abe on the side rocking it.

"Thought you be asleep Stephanie."

"I thought you to be an adult Abe?"

"Hahahaa"
