Meet the Parents

Alec's POV
"Mom, just make normal food." I say, my attitude in full bloom. "Like why do you need to try and make something weird?" I add as I look over her shoulder while she stands at the stove. "Honey, just relax. Okay? I know what I'm doing." She says reassuringly. I just roll my eyes and storm out of the kitchen to the living room.

"Are you sure you want to wear that?" Izzy asks as I plop on the couch. I look down at my grey jeans and bright blue t-shirt with my white vans. "What's wrong with how I look?" I ask, my eyes widening. "Izzy, stop making him more nervous than he already is." Jace says, defending me.

The doorbell rings and I quickly stand up. I rush over to the door and open it. Magnus is standing there in his beautiful attire, spiked hair with blue tips, his makeup highlights all of his features. I quickly step outside, making Magnus make a questioning face. I shut the just enough so no one can hear me.

"I want to respect you..." I say pausing but panic. "That came out wrong. I always respect you. Ugh... Do you want me to introduce you as Malik or Magnus?" I blurt at the end. He licks his lips and squints his eyes. "Magnus. I want to be real with your family." He says. I nod my head and give an awkward smile. He steps closer and pecks my lips softly. "Shall we go inside?" He asks, taking my hand in his.

We walk inside and Izzy jumps from the couch and struts in front of us. "Magnus, this is my sister. Isabelle." I say. She stretches out her hand and Magnus shakes it. "Izzy. Nice to meet you Magnus. It's wonderful to see Alec so happy. He wouldn't shut up about you." My hand tightens around Magnus's.

"And I'm Jace. Alec's other, more attractive brother." He says as he walks over to shake Magnus's hand. I roll my eyes at his comment and Jace just expresses his cocky grin towards me. "Let's go meet my parents." I say and slowly guide him to the kitchen.

"It smells really good in here." Magnus says, causing my mom to turn from the stove. He lets go of my hand and walks over towards her. He stretches out his hand but my mom pulls him into a tight hug. "Welcome! I'm Maryse." She says, her tone full of excitement.

"I'm Magnus. It's very nice to finally meet you." My mom smiles but then her face twitches in confusion. Maybe shock? "Jace. Why don't you show Magnus around the house!" She shouts to the other room. Jace slowly comes and nods his head to show Magnus the way they will be going. "It's pretty small, it's not that exciting." He says as they walk up the stairs.

"Alexander. What is this? A joke?" She says, her eyebrows raised as she places her hands on her hips. I squint my eyes in confusion. "Magnus the one you freaked out about when you woke up! The one that you had a life with. That Magnus?" I stare at her before simply saying. "Yes."

She stares more before changing her demeanor. She relaxes and claps her hands together. "Alright." She says, her smile reappearing. I pretend to help her cook until Magnus comes back down.

"You have a lovely home Mrs. Lightwood." He says with his usual charm that it makes me smile. "Oh please. Call me Maryse." She says and gives a bright smile. "Dinner will be ready in just a few minutes. Someone set the table." She adds.

Jace looks at me and throws his hands up. I roll my eyes and take Magnus's hand so we can go to the dining room that connects to the kitchen. I bend reach up into the cabinet but he catches my hand first. "Everything okay?" He asks. I just smile and bend down to kiss his lips. "Everything is great." I say when I lean back. He smiles and pecks my cheek.

We set the table just in time for my mother to bring the food to the table. Everyone sits down at the table, except my father. Max is the first one to ask. "Mom, you told me Dad would be back when I woke up from my nap. Where is he?" His eyes look sad. I look to her and as she's cutting her food, without looking up, she says "He texted me while I was cooking. He won't be back until really late. Things came up in the office." Such a lie, I don't even believe her. It's not time to pick a fight so we just go on eating.

Eventually the dinner conversations get lighter and everyone is laughing, I think Magnus really likes them and they like him. When we finish eating, everyone helps my mother clean up. "Well, I think I might have to go. I have a trip to get back home. It was so lovely meeting you all. I hope to be back." Magnus says, bright and bubbly. He hugs everyone and shakes Jaces hand before I walk him outside towards his car.

"Your family is really wonderful. I love how close you all are." He says once he's at the car by the passenger side. He turns around and I can't help but smile down at him. "You okay Alexander?" He asks softly to break the silence. "Never better." I place my hands on his hips and pull him in for a kiss.

The kiss begins softly, but eventually he wraps his arms around my neck and runs his fingers through my hair. I can feel him pull me impossibly closer and as he does, my hands move slowly from his hips to his back. He slowly leans back against the car and I feel are hips touch. I can feel him against mine. His hands slowly move to my checks before he breaks the kiss.

"Maybe next time we should find a bedroom." He chuckles as he bites his lip. I give my little grin and kiss his lips again. "Maybe." I say softly. I walk with him to the drivers side and open the door for him. "I will text you when I get home." He says. He kisses my cheek before slipping into the seat. I walk to the sidewalk and watch him drive away.

I smile to myself and take a deep breath. As I turn around quickly, I look at the windows to see my entire family. They shut the curtains quickly, acting as if they weren't watching. As I walk through the door I see everyone sitting scattered on the couch. "Did you like him?" Is all I say, looking directly at my mother.

As she stands up she says "I love him" and walks over to me. She hugs me tightly and she whispers something into my ear. I don't process it until our embrace is over and her hands are on my shoulders.

"I'm so grateful you finally found him."
