Magnus's POV
Once we all finally get ready, we all get in my mother's mini van. I sit up against Alexander while we drive, his arm draped over my shoulders. He rubs little circles into my upper arms to the beat of the music. I hold onto his right knee, gliding my thumb from side to side.I look up to my mother. She's holding onto Jerry's hand while he softly sings to her. It's very romantic and she deserves it after HIM. We both deserve to be happy. I finally feel like I can. With a man I'm falling in love with in the town I was born in.
"Del, you've taken this turn 3 times now." Jerry points out, chuckling. "I thought I remembered where this was. It's been a few years. Can you just put it in your phone?" She's smiling. If my father was here... no one would be laughing. Well, maybe he would be.
I look up at Alec who is sleeping peacefully. I turn and kiss his cheek, causing his eyes to flutter open softly. "You were asleep my dear Alexander." I whisper. He blinks a few times before leaning down to kiss my lips. "My bad. I don't know why I got so tired. Maybe it's my headache?" He finishes before leaning his forehead to mine.
Before I can say anything else, the car abruptly stops. It causes Alec's belt to lock and for him to rub his head, probably where his headache is worst... to the right of the tiny scar from the bullet. I place my hand to his cheek and look into his eyes and as if he can hear my thoughts asking if he's okay, he nods his head. He places his hand over mine and closes his eyes before getting out of the car.
"I'm so sorry for the sudden stop. I was about to pass the parking lot for the 3rd time." My mother says and Jerry corrects, "It was actually going to be the 5th time." My mother just laughs and nudges her elbow into Jerry's side before wrapping her arm into his. I grab Alec's hand and hold it tightly, guiding him inside.
We are quickly seated to a table and a drink order is placed. "Mom, you should probably just order for the table. You know what I like but these two Yim Yams have no clue." I say pointing at Alec and Jerry. The phrase causes Jerry to start laughing, causing everyone to smile.
I lean over to Alec to whisper to only him. "Do you remember what kind of sushi you had?" I look over to him and his eyes are wide as he is overwhelmed by the menu. "No, it was from the coma. So I have no idea some of the very detailed details." He whispers slowly back. I grab a hold of his hand. "I'll eat whatever you do not like." I say a little louder which causes him to close his menu and let out a sign of relief.
The waitress come back and my mom starts to order when she stops talking. "Deliah?" Jerry asks, resting his hand on her shoulder. With the touch, she shutters. "Just pick a couple other ones, I'll be back." She says abruptly. Jerry looks to me. I just pick 4 more random, basic rolls so the waitress can leave. I didn't see where my mom went but it becomes quite apparent when I hear a laugh.
I instinctively grip my hand to try and make a fist. "Ow." Alec chirps out. "You okay?" He leans forward to look into my eyes. "Hey. Hey. What's wrong? You look scared." He adds nervously. I release his hand quickly and pull it to my body. Just before I'm about to speak, "Magnus."
Instead of looking to my side at the man, I just look up at Alec. "You're not even going to look at your father?" Alec's eyes widen and he quickly stands up.
"Get away from us. Now." He says sternly. I feel a hand on my shoulder and before I can shutter, Jerry stands up. "Bub, get out of here or I'll call the cops. You touch my boy again, I'll break you." I've never heard Jerry talk with a stern voice. I can't even turn around to see if he leaves, the only way I know he's gone is when Alec sits back down.
"Alexander." I whisper, single streams of tears come from each of my eyes. "Jerry, find Deliah." Alec says. He softly places his hands on the side of my cheeks to make me look at him. "We are going to leave, okay?" He asks. I just look at him. I'm afraid if I say anything or move I'll break down from flashbacks.
Soon I feel two small hands on my shoulders. I quickly turn around as my mother pulls me into an embrace. "Let's go. Alec, take him." My mother says strongly. Alec takes my hand, any guides me from the table. I see my mother drop money on the table and raises her hands at the employees.
As we walk out of the restaurant, I'm hit with an unsettling feeling. A feeling like something is about to happen... which unfortunately it does. We make it only a few steps out of the door before my father takes a swing. I thought it was coming for me but one thing about my father is that he never misses when he throws a punch. No matter what.
His fist makes contact with Alec, causing him to crash to the ground. Just before his head hits the pavement, my hands catch his head to prevent it from hitting the ground. "You told me not to lay a hand on your boy and that boy is certainly not your boy." My father says, mockingly.
"Did you just wait out here to do this? What-" I don't hear the rest of what Jerry says. My thoughts are on Alexander. "Mom, mom he isn't opening his eyes!" I raise my voice until I'm shouting at the end of my sentence. I move out of her way, just enough that I can still hold his hand. I can see the bruise forming on his head. "Call 911, Magnus. Now." My mom adds sternly.
I make the call, crying and all. I'm full of such worry and hate. Shortly after the call, I hear the ambulance sirens. Suddenly, Alec bolts up, gasping for breath. Instead of checking himself out, he leans to me and places his hands on my cheeks. He wipes the tears from my eyes. "I'm okay." He whispers but with the last syllable, his eyes roll into the back of his head and he seizes.
"Son, watch out. We got him." An older woman says. I look over my shoulder to see her and her partner coming from the ambulance. Right when I stand up, his seizures stop. "We are going to take him now. Only one can come with us." She says calmly. My mother pushes me softly with her hands and adds "We will follow."
They place Alec's body on the gurney before pushing him to the ambulance. His almost lifeless body. And I can not hold my tears back any longer.
