The grass was vaguely feathery under my fingertips. It smelt of springtime, and I could see peeks of daisies beginning to spring up from the nourished soil. I allowed myself a smile as I heard Tubbo laugh, the small brunette spinning around with his arms outstretched. It had been just over a month since Dream had left, and we all knew he'd be returning soon. Surprisingly, we'd managed to capture the Palace without much issue, Wilbur had already instated some of our allies into rooms there. Tubbo and I were still staying with Phil. I was amazed we'd managed to keep from him what we were involved in, but we had. Deep down in my heart, I knew we'd eventually have to leave the safety of the orphanage. I could never thank Phil enough for all he'd done for us but it would be time to move on eventually.

Wilbur had been increasing our activity within the revolution, leaving us little time to relax. In fact, Tubbo and I were currently enjoying what would likely be our last spare time for a while. We'd left L'Manberg for a bit, and gone on a walk in the surrounding meadows. The two of us had taken a break at about midday.

I reclined back, lying against the soft tufts of grass beneath me. The was a fine day, with glassy blue skies stretching above us, unbroken by any sliver of cloud. Tubbo was somehow still up and running about, endlessly energetic. His joyful giggles filtered through the air and reached me in my position, lying down, relaxed. The sun was warm, but not so as to make us uncomfortable. I was perfectly fine in my short-sleeved shirt.

Tubbo walked over to me, dropping a small object on my lap. I sat up, fumbling my fingers around the ring of flowers he'd given me.

"What's this?" I asked, puzzled. He chuckled slightly.

"It goes on your head, silly." He leaned over and picked it up again, placing it on my head gently. I furrowed my eyebrows, not entirely sure of the point.

"And it does...?" I asked, laughing slightly.

"It just looks lovely. See, I've got one too!" He called, placing a woven crown of buttercups on his straight, brown hair. He pulled a stupid face and was sent into another fit of giggles upon seeing my reaction.

"Very nice, Tubs." I sighed to placate him. Satisfied with my reaction, he pulled himself up to his full height, which admittedly wasn't very tall. I saw him look past my head and his eyes widened.

"Oh whoa, Tommy look!" He yelped, pointing down the soft slope we were on. Before I could even turn my head to see what he was pointing at, he was already bounding away, in pursuit of a fuzzy insect.

I couldn't help but smile as I watched my best friend running around the field. He laughed raucously as he chased a large bumblebee through the knee-high wild grass.

"Whatcha up to, Tubbo?" I grinned.

"Look Tommy, there are so many bees!" I chuckled, he seemed so happy.

"What is it with you and those things?"

"I just love bees." I could hear the smile in his voice. I clasped my hands behind my head and let out a sigh, closing my eyes. I had no idea how Tubbo and I got on so well. We were absolute opposites. He was bubbly, energetic, and kind. I was abrasive and brash. Tubbo was one of the kindest people I'd ever met. He stuck around. He cared. It was more than I could ever have asked for.

I heard a soft thump beside me and opened my eyes a fraction to see my best friend flop down next to me. He was panting for breath, face lit up in joy. I frowned. So much happiness... Who knows what would happen once Dream returned?

"You seem troubled..." The brunette started. Tubbo's voice was soft as he delicately approached the subject, as if afraid to cause me offence. I exhaled slowly.

"I... I just don't want anything to change, you know?" I responded to his statement quietly. "I don't want to lose this. To lose you. Or Wilbur, Fundy, Niki, Eret. Any of them."

"Tommy, there's no point speculating. We have no way of knowing what's to come. But I do know I'll stick beside you no matter what." Tubbo looked at me earnestly, and I saw the honesty in the lines of his face.

"You don't know how much that means to me..."

"I'll always be with you. No matter the cost. Whether we live or die, we stick together. We're like glue, you and I." Tears welled in my best friend's eyes.

"Tubbo, you don't have to do this-" I started.

"Yes, I do. I can't let you face this alone. You would do the same for me, I know you would. I'm not leaving your side till this is over." He retorted, uncharacteristically fierce.

"What if it's not worth it?" I queried. I was scared to voice my fears aloud, but I couldn't stop them pouring from my mouth once I began.

"You can't give up. I won't let you. If we give up now, we forfeit our chance at freedom and independence. Tommy, I want a chance to be happy. But I'll only be happy if you're there by my side." Tubbo answered me, a stray tear slipping down his face.

"I-"

"Promise me, Tommy. Promise me we'll always be there for each other." He turned to me desperately.

"I promise, Tubbo." I choked out, not used to the smaller boy being so intent on something. He smiled at me sadly.

"It's late, we should get going." I nodded, and stood up, offering the brunette a hand. He hauled himself to his feet, looking thoughtful.

"Till the end?" He asked, the wavering of his voice betraying his fear.

"Till the end."
