After the meeting, Tubbo and I barely made it back to the orphanage before night fell completely. We were naturally scolded, although softly, by Phil, who didn't ask where we'd been. I was thankful for this, as I hadn't thought of a cover story yet, and I couldn't exactly tell him we were planning to boycott Dream's Palace and start a revolution.
The small brunette and I were too excited to sleep that night, so I spent a few hours recounting what Wilbur had told me about his work and opinions as a revolutionary. I was surprised by how knowledgeable Tubbo was already on this subject but also pleased, as it meant I knew he'd actually be fully committed to this, and not there simply as my best friend. We'd seen Wilbur once or twice in the past few days, but it had only been to further inform us of the plan and for him to ask about my whereabouts after we were separated.
But not today. Today, Wilbur had requested us personally. He said he had someone important for us to meet. We'd already been acquainted with some of the other members of the revolution, like Jack and Karl. I rarely saw those two around. It seemed their job was merely to run messages around the more important revolutionaries. The only problem with Wilbur requesting us was that we were to move under cover of night to avoid being followed. We had to be careful, as the Kingsguard had been close to finding our base of operations for a while now. But this meant we had to sneak out.
I hadn't slept as I waited for the time to leave. I'd heard Tubbo snoring softly, but I had a feeling he'd been faking it to put my mind at ease and make me think he was calm and sleeping. This was very risky. Wilbur had offered us both a place to stay in our current meeting area, which had several rooms attached. We'd both declined. Phil had done so much for us, we couldn't just leave him. So we continued to stay in the orphanage and help him out with the younger children.
The Burry Tower in the middle of the Town Square chimed, showing it to be midnight. I pulled the swathes of blankets off my already closed body, and walked over to Tubbo's bed, nudging him. He got up immediately, smiling happily as he quickly remade his bed, something I hadn't bothered to do. He was a very neat person, I'd come to realise. We silently left our dorm and headed down the first of three flights of stairs. We made it down without incident. But on the second floor, I accidentally tripped over my own feet, forcing me to step on the extremely creaky floorboard we'd been trying to avoid.
My breath hitched in my throat as the door to the room at the end of the corridor opened slightly. Tubbo and I shared a look of fear. A small shadow peeked around the corner and finally appeared in the light, revealing who'd caught us. I sighed in relief. It was only Scott, Shelby clinging onto his sleeve behind him. The two children were some of the youngest here, at about five years old. The ginger boy and the blonde girl were practically inseparable and often reminded me of myself and Tubbo, only younger. I smiled at the pair of them, their large eyes glistening with curiosity.
"Tommy? What are you and Tubbo doing?" Scott warbled, voice high. I cringed at the volume at which he spoke, shushing him urgently. I made to reply, but Tubbo got there first.
"Hey Scott, do you want to play a game? Me and Tommy need to get out to escape a big monster, but we need to be very quiet. Can you keep a lookout for us?" He crouched down next to the pair talking softly. He was always better with the younger ones. I saw what he was trying to do now, getting them to help us by treating it like a game. Shelby nodded quickly, jumping into a 'fierce' persona as she mimed looking through a telescope. I held back the involuntary urge to giggle at the two children. Tubbo stood up, ruffling Scott's tufts of cyan hair.
"You're doing great, you two, good job." He smiled, before beckoning me downstairs. We made it to the door quickly after that, nothing else stopping us.
"That was clever." I complimented the green-shirted boy. He chuckled, unlocking the door and holding it open for me.
We only needed to walk for a few minutes before we spotted Fundy, waiting for us. In no time at all, we were crawling through the window to get to the meeting room. The younger Soot brother bid us goodbye as we approached, yawning and walking off to his bedroom on the next floor. I thought it prudent to knock before entering.
"Come in!" Wilbur's distinct accent called, allowing us entry.
"After you." I smiled at Tubbo. He nodded and strode into the meeting room. Will was sitting in his usual spot, curly hair obscuring his face as he leaned over a set of blueprints, mumbling to himself. A few feet away, the man with the sunglasses we'd seen a few days ago was lounging placidly, twiddling his thumbs.
"Ah Tommy, Tubbo, glad you could make it. I'd like you to meet Eret, he's a very good friend of mine." Wilbur glanced up, pointing to the brown-haired man. If I was being honest, it looked more like Eret and Wilbur were brothers than Wilbur and Fundy. The sunglasses-wearing man was only just taller than me. He sprang up at the mention of his name, saluting with two fingers.
"Gentlemen." He nodded.
"Hi!" Tubbo greeted enthusiastically. Eret chuckled at his bubbly attitude.
"You must be Tommy. Wilbur's told me a lot about you." He turned in my direction. I struggled to think of a response as he whipped off his dark glasses, cleaning them on the hem of his shirt. The gesture revealed bright blue eyes that almost seem to glow. Honestly, his deep voice was a little scary, despite how smooth and suave it was.
"Uh, yeah I guess..." I finally stuttered out.
"Don't be intimated boys, I'm here to help." He smiled.
"I'd trust Eret with my life, he's helped me with our plan a lot," Wilbur added inclining his head towards the other man. Eret chuckled, pushing his hair back.
"Wilbur claims to be the leader, but we all know I'm the brains behind the operation." He joked. I smiled politely.
"Anyway, Tommy, Tubbo, I called you here for a reason. It's time."
