Luz POV
'Why isn't she looking at me?' I thought to myself. Amity had brought me to a restaurant not too far from the Blight Mansion. The whole walk felt uncomfortable yet okay at the same time, knowing that Amity was by my side. The reason why it felt uncomfortable was due to how Amity hadn't looked at me once, last I recall.

I remember three years ago how she would never take her eyes off me. It felt nice, but now every time she does decide to look up at me, I can't help but feel bad. The worst part is, I don't know why. I should ask, but what if I make her uncomfortable? What if she walks away because I should've already known? What if-
"Luz?" I snap out of my trance, looking up at the half-green half-brown haired girl who fortunately, was looking back at me this time.

"Yeah? What's wrong Amity?" I responded in panic, slightly raising my voice a little higher than I wanted.
"W-What? No nothing Luz. I was just- I wanted to ask if you were all good. You look a bit like you've been spending some time out of your head." I lightly shook my head before chuckling to assure the witch that everything was alright. My response was quickly shut down after seeing Amity nod only to revert her daze back at my Fried Tentacles.

I had barely taken a bite, despite feeling a tad hungry. I guess my thoughts seemed to bother me more than my hunger was.
"Aren't you glad to see me Amity?" I froze in realisation of the words I had so suddenly spat out, but in a way, I didn't regret asking. I wanted to know. I watched as my eyes locked straight onto Amity's whose eyes were still looking at the table.
No response.
"Amity? Why won't you look at me?" I reached a hand out to the Blight from the other side of the table, gently placing it down in front of her.

She had her fingers intertwined with each other, which were placed neatly on top of the table. As a response to my two questions, she pulled her hands away further before crossing her arms, still not looking at me. We sat there in complete silence for what felt like fifteen whole minutes, but realistically it was probably only two.

Our silence was interrupted with a notification sound dinging from my phone. I looked up at Amity, whose eyes were now staring at my pocket, before I pulled my phone out to check the message I had just received. It was from Violet.

The text read :
'Hey Luz, where are you? Didn't we agree on meeting outside of school before heading out?'
I felt my soul jump out of my body for a second. Leaving home, I knew I was also leaving Vi but I had completely forgotten to let her know that I had to cancel our plans. Once again, I looked up at Amity and this time I caught her staring at me. That was quickly cut off though because the second we made eye contact, she reverted back to looking at my phone.

I gave myself a minute, thinking of what to tell Vi or better yet how to tell Vi where I was. I had told her about my visit to the Boiling Isles not long ago and she seemed really understanding of the situation. During my moment of thought, she sent another text.
'Luz? Where are you? Are you okay?'
I took a deep breath in, bracing myself for what I was about to tell her, and then I replied.
'Hey Vi. I don't know how to tell you this but let me explain. I'm in the Boiling Isles, and I don't know how long I'll be here for. Maybe for the entire summer or maybe for just a couple of days. I'm sorry we had to cancel our plans! I miss you sooo much already.'

Vi had opened my message straight away, and after a moment she started typing. I placed my phone on the table, screen faced down while I waited for her response.
"Who are you talking to?" Amity suddenly asked me. Her question caught me off guard, but I guess this was a good way to ease the tension for a while.
"Oh! Just my friend Violet, from the human realm. We go to the same school and she just wanted to ask where I was since we sort of had plans today actually."
