>Be Karkat<

Finally the day is here, moving day. You were successfully packed 2 weeks ago and now it’s time. Our new house is about a block and a half from Gamzee’s and down the street from Kanaya’s. I’m so excited that I can’t stop smiling, my brother and father must think I’m insane. In case you didn’t get the drift yet, I’m not a person who smiles often.

As we strapped into our seats on the plane, I popped in my ear buds and blasted my favorite songs into my ears. I’m a huge fan of all sorts of music; my playlist has all different type from completely different groups. The first one was In the End by Black Veil Brides. Not my number one choice but I still like a few of their songs.

I remember falling for what seemed like forever before I finally hit the ground. I got up and looked around; I was sitting in my old room. Gamzee and Kanaya were standing next to me.

“I’m sorry Karkat.” Gamzee said quietly. This is back in fourth grade. Why am I here?

“Why?” I asked softly. I looked to Kanaya. She nodded towards Gamzee and the both took one of my hands.

“I’m moving today remember?” Gamzee lowered his head again. I remember this day… We pulled each other into a hug. I began crying softly.

“Please don’t go.” I cried into his shoulder.

“I’m sorry.” He cried into mine. I remember this day…

Gamzee’s father came into the room and grabbed Gamzee’s arm softly. He pulled Gamzee out of the house and into the car with his brother.

The day my friend was literally ripped from my arms… I fell into Kanaya’s arms and couldn’t stop crying. It was like watching your twin brother leave you for who knows how long and then some. I never knew if I’d ever see him again.

My father shook me awake, pulling out my ear buds and telling me that we landed. I wiped my slightly wet eyes and got off the plane with my small family. We got our luggage and sat in the pick-up zone.

“Okay, who are we waiting for exactly?” I asked after waiting anxiously for 10 minutes. I hope it isn’t Gamzee, I look like shit and probably smell like it too. It was like as if on que that green Subaru pulled up in front of us. Three women got out and greeted us.

“Hello Karkat.” Kanaya opened her arms and I hugged her. I saw Kankri do the same with Kanaya’s older sister Porrim. The Vantas and Maryam families have always been close. Once we all had hugged and talked a little, we piled into the small car easily, everyone being quite slim.

“So, straight to the new house?” Kanaya’s mom asked my dad. He nodded and on our way we went.

“Excited to start school?” Porrim asked us sarcastically.

“At least we timed the move to start the new semester.” Kankri shrugged.

We soon reached the house and surprised us when we found it fully furnished and two new cars out front. I forgot that Kanaya’s mom is practically the richest person they knew.

“Dola, you didn’t have to do this…” My father sighed happily.

“Please Suffy, I wanted to. Welcome to your new home.” She smiled and hugged him.

“Why two cars?” Kankri asked.

“Well, I assume your father will have to drive around a lot and you boy’s will need a car for when he’s gone.” Kanaya’s mom smiled with a chuckle. Kankri and I both hugged her and looked at our new car before helping out dad bring stuff inside.

{4 hours later}

After we unpacked everything, my dad ordered a pizza and we all sat at the table eating.

“Hey dad, can I run out for a bit when we’re done?”

“It’s nearly 10 Karkat, can’t it wait until tomorrow?” My dad sighed.

“Oh come on! It’s a perfectly safe neighborhood, plus I think I know a thing or two after living in New York for the better part of 5 years.” I sighed angrily.

“Sorry son, but it’s just been a long day and school starts tomorrow.” He said as he and Kankri began to clean up. I growled and went upstairs to my new room. I flopped down onto my new bed and then realized how tired I was. I set my alarm and closed my eyes. It’s surprisingly quiet around here, compared to the bustle of New York City anyways. I eventually drifted off, surrounded by peaceful quiet.
