“Hello Karkat, how was school?” My brother greeted me when I got home.

“Not horrible.” I shrugged and grabbed an apple from the table and set my backpack down. “I’m going out for a bit, I’ll be back later.” I announced as I opened the door to leave again.

“Heading over to the Makara’s?” I nodded in response as I bit the apple.

“I’ll come with you! It’s been awhile since I’ve seen Kurloz.” Kankri quickly threw on his shoes and we walked to Gamzee’s house together.

I will admit, as we walked up Gamzee’s driveway I got a bit nervous. It’s been so long and I already know he’s changed so much… what if he doesn’t like how I’ve changed? I know I look very different from how I used to… piercings, messier style and gog knows my attitude has changed. These thoughts left my head when Kankri rung the doorbell. There was a bit of commotion inside before the door was opened. I really wasn’t expecting to find Gamzee’s brother on the other side. He was so damn tall, and a few piercings along with tattoos and… is his mouth stitched shut?!

He waved to us quickly before being tackled to the ground by another tall guy. This one however, I smiled to see.

“I said I had it motherfucker!” he laughed as he pinned Kurloz to the ground. Kankri cleared his throat and both boys looked up at us. Within seconds, Gamzee was on his feet hugging me. I hugged him back as tight as I could, somewhat embarrassed by the fact that he had to bend over so much to hug me.

“Are you sure this isn’t a motherfuckin dream?” He asked me as we parted the embrace. He yelped when he received a pinch from Kurloz. “What the fuck?” he growled. Kurloz shrugged and made some hand movements.

“We can’t stay long, out father should be home soon.” Kankri broke the awkward silence after that.

“We just got here!” I complained “Gamzee and I haven’t seen each other is so fucking long and we need to talk.” I crossed my arms and growled.

“Watch the language Karkat. If you have a problem you can talk to father.” Kankri responded. I growled again and Gamzee rested his hand on my shoulder. I turned to look at him, his overall appearance hadn’t changed to much. He had a few piercings and his face was painted for some reason but I could still tell who he is.

“You should probably go, don’t want my best bro in trouble.” Gamzee smiled and I couldn’t help but smile back. His goofy smile has always been so contagious… he was only person who could get me to smile when my mom died.

“Fine, but we’re hanging out on Friday alright?” Gamzee and I agreed and Kankri and I left.

“Dad won’t be home until 7 so why the fuck are we leaving so early?” I asked Kankri on the way home.

“I got a strange feeling from those two. Now, I’m not one to judge people, I wouldn’t want to trigger anyone, but it just didn’t feel right.” He sighed. I gave him a ‘what the absolute fuck’ face and rolled my eyes.

I struggled to sleep that night… actually, the next three 3 months were pretty tough. I joined a club at school which united me with my 15 new friends. Most of them are pretty useless though, I don’t really need anyone else when I have Kanaya and Gamzee.
