Chapter 8

"You don't know you're beautiful. That's what makes you beautiful."

It was another message from Ely. A week had passed and he never failed to send me messages every day. It was weird at first but I found out that those were lyrics from songs. Out of curiosity, I played them all and I can say that he has a good music taste.

This one's familiar. Naaalala kong pinapatugtog 'to ni Kuya Yno, my older brother, sa kotse niya. I remembered how he looked stupid nang pilit niyang ginagaya ang boses ng isa sa mga member ng boyband na 'yon. Those were the good old days. Bigla ko tuloy siyang na-miss. He's in New York now, pursuing his dream on being an architect.

I'm on my way to my last class before my break when I bumped into one of Ely's friend, Zane. Nagulat pa siya nang makita ako. Sa likod niya ay si Kayle na bakas din ang gulat sa mukha. They both looked like they saw a ghost.

I squinted my eyes and looked at them suspiciously just to make them more stupidly nervous. Para silang natataeng ewan. Binaba ko ang tingin ko at nakita kong magkahawak sila ng kamay. Sana all. So he's making his move now 'eh?

Sinundan nila ang tingin ko at nang makitang nasa mga kamay nila iyon ay biglang bumitiaw si Kayle sa hawak ni Zane. She then smiled awkwardly and ran to me to give me a kiss on the cheeks. Si Zane naman ay tumango lang. Parang nahihiya pa.

"I didn't know you two were dating na. Kayle hasn't told me anything. I guess you two wanted to keep it low-key." Kayle's face is as red as a tomato.

"We're getting to know each other as of now. I hope you don't mind," si Zane ang sumagot, tila kabado.

Seeing their faces right now, I can't help but to laugh.

"Hey, chill! You two look like you will pass out anytime. Loosen up. I was just kidding. You can continue dating na. I have to go since I have a class pa. And oh! Ingat ka diyan kay Kayle, nangangagat 'yan." Then I walked away, going to my room this time.

Narinig ko pa ang sigaw ni Kayle, saying that I'm lying but I couldn't care less. I'm running late for my next class.

I was exhausted when I went out of the room. I was called for a recit on my Business Law and Taxation subject. It's an essential for me because I will be needing the learnings when I pursue my dream job, to be a lawyer. It involves the application of law contracts and principles in taxations in financial transactions. I heard that taxation is one of the difficult subjects in law schools so it's a good thing that I am able to study it now.

I was on the car park when I received a message from Ely. He sent me his location since he asked me to have lunch with him. We've been hanging out almost every day for a week now. Unti-unti na rin naman akong nasasanay sa presensiya niya at nababawasan na ang awkwardness 'pag magkasama kami. Hindi ko naman binibigyan ng malisya since I know we're just friends. He hasn't told me anything either. We're just hanging out, eating and talking to each other.

He was at the mall. I thought kakain na kami but he asked me to accompany him dahil may bibilhin daw siya for his project. I said yes since hind pa naman ako gutom and my next class would be four hours from now pa naman. We went inside the bookstore and he's looking so damn fine choosing some art materials. Nahalata niya atang nakatitig na ako sa kaniya kaya tiningnan niya ako. Tinaasan ko lang siya ng kilay dahilan para tumawa siya nang mahina. Oh gosh, can't he stop being so charming?
