~after the game~
The game was an easy win at this point. Aus watched intently as the ball flew past the net, hitting one of the sidebars before bouncing off.
As the buzzer went off, Aus could feel the bubbly excitement leave her throat as she sprung to her feet and cheered, her arms in the air as she hopped in one spot.
Their team had won!
It wasn't much of a surprise though-- their team was one of the best in the districts-- but that didn't matter! The feeling of adrenaline was always welcome as the ball got kicked around.
Aus' eyes lit up as she saw Scot run his fingers through his hair, a smile just barely tugging at his lips as he turned his head to Aus, jogging towards her before enveloping her in a big sweaty bear hug, Aus laughing and wrapping her arms around his neck, holding onto him tight.
"I'm so proud of you!" Her smile beamed as he pulled away to look at her, his face being held by her gentle hands. She didn't care about the sweat at all. "You did so good!"
"I think it helped having you on this side of the field." Another slight smile crossed his lips as his eyes trailed over her happy face.
"Hey, I want a hug too!!" Two of Scot's teammates came over to join the hug, much to Scot's displeasure. Then the rest of them ran over, and Aus was surrounded by big, sweaty athletes all laughing and hugging. She even heard a few 'no homo's.
Caught up in the middle of the big, sweaty group hug, Aus laughed gently, reaching her arms out as wide as she could to hug as many of the buff, oversized teddy bears as she could. "You guys are squishing me!" She couldn't help but wriggle away after a bit, a smile still on her face as she looked around at all the taller, bigger boys.
God, she really felt like a toddler-- no, a dwarf among these boys. To think they were around her age, too. And she wasn't even short.
"Go drink up, take a rest!" She shooed them away with a little hand motion, rushing over to get their bottles for them and plenty of towels, slipping between the huffing bodies. "Sit down, the game's over!" She worked like a little busy bee, making sure each and every one of the boys were content.
This felt nice. So much nicer than cheerleading.
After she was done tending to the others, she went back to Scot, taking a towel and wiping his forehead and patting his face, looking at him proudly. "You must be tired. Lucky we have the day off tomorrow, huh?" She giggled, the rest of the boys sitting on the field somewhere else so it was just her and Scot by the drink fountain.
"Mhm." Scot took a drink out of his water bottle, glancing at the rest of his buddies sitting on the field, then sparing an even shorter look at where the cheerleaders were chatting with each other and already heading back to the bus. "So why'd you quit cheer?"
Aus' bright face quickly faded as he brought it up, her heart twisting as she followed his gaze to the rest of the cheerleaders, rubbing her arm from when that girl grabbed it.
"Oh." Her voice fell to a more hurt tone as she looked down at the ground, leaning against the wall behind her. "Um..."
She didn't know how to phrase it in any other way than 'they bullied me out of it', but she didn't want to throw them under the bus and make them look bad. She didn't believe in that kind of thing.
But she didn't want to lie to Scot, either. For heaven's sake, she loved him, even if she denied it. Lying to him would hurt her more in the long run.
"I... " it took her a few moments to form the words, her eyes still fixated on the grass beneath her white sneakers. "They didn't say very nice things to me. They convinced me into quitting. I didn't feel like I contributed much anyway." She lifted her gaze up to his, a trying smile forming on her lips. "They, um-- they talked about you a lot though! And some of the other boys. They all said you were hot and stuff. Which is good, because you are." She softened, tilting her head as she shrugged and giggled.
Scot's eyebrows bunched together. "I am?"
Aus reddened when she realised what she said, rubbing her cheek. "Y-.. yeah! Of course. All the girls talk about you, you know. You're strong and athletic and you've got a deep voice and you're tall, you're kind, you're hot..." She didn't realise she was subtly rambling, but her gaze ran elsewhere as she did. She couldn't look Scot in the face or she'd stumble over her words.
Scot frowned deeply, like he was truly confused by what she was saying. "Well, you're some of those things too, you're pretty and kind. I like your stars."
Aus was caught off-guard by the comment, raising her eyebrows and reaching a hand up to her face to touch her cheek, which was dotted with stars. "You... you do? You think I'm pretty?"
"Of course I do. Why wouldn't I?" Scot stepped closer and lightly cupped her face, running one of his thumbs over her cheek. "You're perfect. Don't you know that?"
"Wh-- what?" Aus was really taken aback by his comments, moving her hand up to the one cupping her cheek, her face burning up again. "Perfect?" She giggled nervously, looking back down at the grass, shaking her head. "No one's perfect. C'mon, you're just saying that to embarrass me. We should go back before your friends make fun of you." She spoke shyly, not being able to handle his gaze.
Scot held her chin with one hand and made her tilt her head up to look at him. His thumb ran over her lower lip, just like how his teammate had done to her earlier. "Why would I want to embarrass you?"
Aus' face burnt a deep crimson, her hand dropping as she leaned back against the wall, her knees weak. It felt like her face was about to catch fire.
"I-- I don't know, maybe you think it's funny seeing me red. Sc-- Scot I-- we-- go-- we should go, um... back, your teammate is... coming over here." her eyes flicking from the figure coming towards them back to Scot's face.
Scot looked at her a while longer before dropping his hand and turning to where his teammate was coming towards them. "What do you want."
"I just wanna talk to our pretty little manager, is that a crime?" He spread his hands, grinning. "She's the team manager, Scot, not your personal manager. You have to share her with the rest of us."
Scot scoffed and grabbed his teammate's shoulders, turning him around and giving him a little push. "Shut up and go get on the bus, cunt."
As the teammate walked away, Aus cautiously reached up to Scot's shoulder and rubbed it, smiling as the furious red drained from her cheeks. "Scot it's okay, he can talk to me if he wants. I'm sure he just wanted to ask something." Her voice was as sweet as always, her hand dropping from his shoulder, her fingers intertwining with Scot's.
"He doesn't want to talk to you, he wants to flirt with and fuck you," Scot said flatly, pulling her in the direction of the parking lot as he started walking. "Give it a few days and they'll calm down. I think."
scot's one personality trait is being as dumb as a brick, and i mean it. this isn't a joke. he's so fucking stupid (but so is everyone else in his family lmaooo)
