Moments before you hit
Sunlight did not recede
Nor did songbirds flock for coverThere was simply nothing
And then there was YouYour full-force slamming into coarse black sand
And the corners of your wave sliding easily into the floorboards of my shack along the coastAn instant flash flood that gave no notice,
whether that be by skyward or earth-bound warning
Only the beloved sea foam and endless drowning
One suspended cord hanging along the crest of that monstrous tidal waveAnd only like that,
After occupying my cupboards
And soaking my lampshades
you recede
you retreat back into the unforgiving ocean
taking with you the salt and seaweed
i had grown to love
and leave my cherrywood kitchen table to rot
and my wooden front steps to warp beyond use
