Innocence Lost

The beauty in being a child is the innocence within.
It radiates and blinds many of the grown.
The smile never dims,
The laughs grow louder.

Until a time comes where the innocence is lost.
Taken away from them by the big bad wolf.
Or the monster creeping in the dark.
People who have no hearts.

A child deserves to be a child.
Young, wild and free.
The world shouldn't scar their beautiful souls.
The world shouldn't force them to grow.

How could the world ruin a child's soul?
Hear the screams and cries, just to carry on.
How dare we not believe the words the child spews?
Especially when it is nothing but truth.

How could we hide the cruelty?
Put our kids under scrutiny.
How could we protect these monsters?
Disregarding the child's emotions.

Are you okay, dear world?
I can see the poison within us beings.
How could we pass it on to the kids?
