Harry's POV

Life wasn't supposed to be this much of a shit show.

Senior year was supposed to be full of memories, parties, and a champion state win.

But here I was seven pm, on the soccer field, running drills over and over again.

It has been almost a whole year since my accident. That fatal night where I was driving back from our champion state win, sophomore year with Gabe. A drunk driver slammed into my side of the car, leaving me with damaged nerve endings in my left leg and Gabe with a couple of scratches.

I don't remember much about the crash itself. However, I do remember the ten months of physical therapy, the pain I experienced every night, and the horrible feeling of never being able to do the thing I loved most again.

I was so depressed.

Soccer was my whole life. It was the thing that defined me. It sucked to watch my best friends, my teammates go on and play without me. I showed up to every game, running their waters, bringing them snacks, and coming up with plays alongside Coach Parker, and it hurt so badly, but it gave me the motivation to keep going so I could play again.

"You know my Dad will kill you if he sees you have been on the field for four hours, right?"

Blair's voice snapped me out of my thoughts, and I quickly turned around to see her standing by the gate of the field.

I knew Blair. She used to be in my friend group. She used to show up a lot to Gabe, and I's smoke sessions and always made it out to party with us. She used to come with her dick ex-boyfriend Justin, who played soccer at our rival school, Crestview. He was a proper asshole, and I think they broke up around the end of junior year. A rumor went around that he cheated on her, but no one really knew what happened because she went MIA after the breakup. Quit the cheer team, stopped showing up to parties, stopped hanging out with her friends, and just kept to herself. Our friend group hadn't seen her all summer. She came around practice quite often last year and sat on the bleachers with headphones in her ears, waiting for coach to end practice since he was her Dad.

To put it simply, Blair became a complete enigma. Not only was she the number one student in our class, but she also was a complete catch. Every guy wanted to get with her, and the old Blair probably would have been down for it, but ever since her breakup with Justin, she just ignored every guy who gave her the slightest bit of attention, and I don't blame them. She is gorgeous.

So I was very much surprised when she decided to talk to me.

She looked quite beautiful today. She has always been beautiful, but she has grown into her looks since I last saw her. She was wearing a long-sleeve brown sweater, plaid pants, and white sneakers. Her brown braids were quite long, reaching down her back, and she was looking at me with her big brown chestnut eyes.

"Well, don't tell anyone I told you, but you're my Dad's favorite, and the team loves you. There is no way you are not making it." She smiles, walking away from the gate a bit closer to me.

"Yeah, well, it seems like I don't have the skills I used to have." I huff out in annoyance.

I was comfortable talking about my accident. Everyone knew about it. I was on my way to becoming the number one division player in the state, and it attracted quite a bit of press. Now that spot belongs to my best friend Gabe, and I was extremely proud of him regardless of my situation.

"Well, maybe you are overthinking it. You are natural. Maybe just stop trying so hard. You have been here for literally four hours." She shrugged.

"Maybe you're right, Miss Parker," I say, making her smile, noticing a slight blush adorning her cheeks.

"I was going to stop by Gabe's party for a bit, you know, his annual kick-off for the first day of school. Did you want to come?" I genuinely ask her.

"Oh, I don't know," She says quietly, playing with the sleeves of her top.

"The group misses you, Blair," I answer back honestly. "You kind of disappeared this summer, Had to hear Gabe complain about how he had no one to roll his blunts."

My joke made her giggle, lighting the mood.

"I just haven't been partying much as I used to," She shrugs.

"Well, the offer is on the table. I'm only passing by for a bit. If at any point you decide you don't want to be there, I'll take you home."

"You know what. I'll go."
