A/N: I can't believe I forgot that Carlos is a year younger than the other VK's 😅 I revised some of the previous chapters because of that but nothing really changed! Just putting that out there if there are any re-readers in the future haha.
Btw, some terms that I'll mention in this chapter (like the SATs, MIT, etc.) aren't the ones we know in real life HAHA they actually mean something else in the Descendants universe! I got them from the novels and Fandom Wiki in case any of y'all wanna know :>
The weeks that followed the Royal Cotillion were filled with such a happy and light atmosphere for majority of the students at Auradon Prep. There was no more tension between friends or couples anymore — Mal and Ben had resolved things, and even Meredith and Carlos had long forgotten their fight from before and were in a new relationship. They were all thriving in what they were passionate about — Mal and Ben were doing well as Lady of the Court and King of Auradon, Evie's fashion business was booming, Jay was getting even better at tourney and R.O.A.R. than he already was, Carlos was performing well in school and dabbling more with technology, and Meredith was still one of the top students in her year and was even in the running to be the next cheerleading captain of Auradon Prep. All was well.
Carlos was still trying to wrap his head around the fact that Meredith like-liked him back even if it had been weeks since they confessed to one another. It just seemed unbelievable to him that someone as funny, talented, and strong-willed as her could like him, a boy who had been nothing but trouble when he first came to Auradon. But he had grown so much from then, and he was proud of himself for that, too.
However, another thought had been lingering at the back of his mind for quite some time. They were already past the halfway point of the school year, meaning that Mal, Evie, Jay, Ben, and Lonnie would all be graduating at the end of the semester. Of course, he was glad that Meredith was in his grade and he had other friends like Jane and even Bashful Jr. and Pin (Pinnochio's son), but he knew things wouldn't be the same anymore. And if he looked even further than that, it also meant that he would soon be a senior in high school and he would have to think about his life after that, too.
"What are you going to do after we graduate?" Carlos asked curiously as he and Meredith turned the corner to another hall lined with blue and yellow lockers.
Meredith looked at Carlos in surprise at the sudden question. A few seconds ago, they had just been gossiping about their Life Skills Without Magic teacher because Carlos was walking her to that very class (which neither of them liked since it was very boring) that was going to start in a few minutes.
"We've still got time to think about that. The SATs aren't for another few months."
"SATs?"
"Salagadoola Abracadabra Test," Meredith clarified.
"Oh, the exam seniors take to get into universities?"
"That's the one. Unless you plan on working right after high school, of course."
"Well, what will you do?"
"I'm not really sure," Meredith admitted. "My mom was in the army with Lonnie's parents for a long time, and then she coached at Sherwood Forest University for a bit because of their archery program... but I don't feel like doing any of those."
"Better than my mom being obsessed with Dalmatians," Carlos chuckled. "Why don't you do something with science or sports, then? Those are your favorites, right?"
"Yeah, I was actually thinking of applying for a course in sports science one day. But I've got almost a year to think about that, anyway. What about you?"
